For quite some time I've played a very rudimentary card game that generates hockey results. I will use this thread to play out the ECACs and the NCAAs on the days the games would occur. A game takes about 2 minutes.
I will list results here. If you're interested I welcome you to peruse.
ECAC QF will begin tomorrow night with the original 4 game slate.
Once the ECACs finish I will seed the NCAA field based on the final PWR, taking into consideration any dark horse ECAC champion.
If you are really, really interested I can actually play out the games in real time on slack, announcing goals as they happen.
I wish I could do it on social media but I am woefully undertalented.

Are you simulating the other tournaments as well? We wouldn't need scores for those, just won/lost results so you could use KRACH if you don't already have an easy way to do it.

Cornell also won a simulation on USCHO as did the other three home teams. [fanforum.uscho.com]
Princeton @ Cornell - Game 1:
The Big Red took it to the Tigers in the opening game of this Best-of-Three series. Cornell used two goals in the opening frame, from Cam Donaldson and Morgan Barron respectively, to take a 2-0 lead, and that would be all the Big Red's Junior Netminder Matthew Galajda would need. Galajda stymied Princeton throughout the night, posting a 26-save shutout. Cornell added to their lead midway through the second on a Matt Steinburg tip of an Alex Green blast that beat Princeton goalie Jeremie Forget to give the Big Red a 3-0 lead through two periods. Both sides skated to a scoreless third period, and Cornell walked out of the rink with a 1-0 series lead.

Did they not feed the actual team rosters into the simulator?!

I had figured that it would take at least an hour before someone would comment on that spelling.

I liked the result of the RPI-Harvard series on the USCHO forum a lot better.
Here is the Cornell summary:
Princeton @ Cornell - Game 2:
The Big Red looked to put away the Tigers in game 2 of their quarterfinal series in the ECAC. Cornell got off to a great start, as Tristan Mullin put the Big Red in the lead on his snipe midway through the first period. Mullin then added a second goal on the powerplay towards the end of the period, and after twenty minutes, Cornell held a 2-0 advantage. Princeton got one goal back early in the second period, when Liam Grande's one-timer from the near circle deflected off Travis Mitchell and past Matthew Galajda's blocker. The score remained 2-1 entering the third. Galajda came up big early in the final stanza when Luke Keenan found himself all alone in the slot. While Keenan's wrister looked destined for the top shelf, Galajda flashed his glove to keep the Big Red in the lead. Galajda was unable to stop Keenan's next opportunity midway through the period, as Keenan's one-time from the far circle beat Galajda stick-side to knot the game at 2. After sixty minutes of play, the teams remained all-square, but Cornell struck early in overtime when Morgan Barron won a puck-battle in the near corner, dished the puck out to Yanni Kaldis, who lined up a slapper from the point, which beat Jeremie Forget, and gave Cornel the 3-2 victory, and a 2-0 series win.
QU-Yale is going to game three. And yes, I realize that Cornell has two L's. Also too many commas for my taste in that last sentence.

Summary of ratings including KRACH. (Normally in a simulation you don't want to re-calculate the team strengths including partial simulated results, but since the simulation didn't include uncertainty about the strengths, re-calculating introduces some of that, since teams which were stronger than their estimates would have been more likely to win last weekend.)

Additional results in case I made a data entry mistake (all scores are listed as 2-0 because only the result matters). Of course, the modified W-L-T records above also include this.

Clarkson will play Harvard as part of the regular slate of game tomorrow. The NCAA Selection Show will be held at Noon on Sunday by a special guest contributor if I can get him.

I just read the computer-generated results of a hypothetical next round in the 2020 NCAA division I men's National Ice Hockey Championship at USCHO online. It was unconvincing and deadly boring. The only numbers were predicted final scores. However, if the results had included six or eight pages of computer-generated numbers which parsed statistics of previous games the pain of the short season would be greatly eased.

In tonight's finals:
Big 10 F: 3 Michigan at 1 Penn State
WCHA F: 2 Bemidji at 1 Mankato
AHA SF (Buffalo, NY): 1 AIC vs 3 RIT
Hockey East SF (Boston, MA): 1 BC vs 3 Lowell
NCHC SF (Saint Paul, MN): 1 North Dakota vs 2 Minnesota-Duluth
Finally, in Lake Placid, Harvard scored early in the first period, then again right off the opening face off of the second period, and completed an improbable shutout weekend to defeat Clarkson 2-0 and win the ECAC Championship.
After the final PWR is posted the NCAA brackets will be chosen and announced on the Selection Show tomorrow, here on this thread.

Meanwhile over on USCHO we “beat” Clarkson 3-1 to win our first ECAC tournament title since 2010. Goals by Berard,Barron, and Green.

I like what Trotsky is doing. Letting us lose in the ECACs so it doesn't look like favoritism when we win the NCAAs. Well played, sir, well played.

Meanwhile over on USCHO we “beat” Clarkson 3-1 to win our first ECAC tournament title since 2010. Goals by Berard,Barron, and Green.
Big thanks to Trotsky for running his simulation, though the uscho game summary sounded pretty convincing.

Initial placement:
The 1-seeds by propinquity gives us:
1 North Dakota, NCHC --> Loveland
2 Mankato, WCHA --> Albany
3 BC, HE --> Worcester
4 Cornell, ECAC --> Allentown
The 2-seeds have the two hosts fixed so we seed the other two by propinquity:
5 Minnesota-Duluth, NCHC--> Albany
6 Pedo State, B1G --> Allentown host
7 Denver, NCHC --> Loveland host
8 Clarkson, ECAC --> Worcester
The 3 and 4 seeds have to avoid conference matchups:
9 Lowell HE --> anywhere
10 Bemidji, WCHA --> anywhere
11 Ohio State, B1G --> anywhere but Pedo State
12 Massachusetts, HE --> anywhere
13 Arizona State, Indy --> anywhere
14 Michigan, B1G --> anywhere
17 Harvard, ECAC --> anywhere but Cornell
23 AIC, AHA --> anywhere
Let's try to preserve bracket integrity by seeding the 1R opponents as close as possible to 1/16, 2/15, ..., 8/9.
9 Lowell HE --> vs 8 --> Worcester
10 Bemidji, WCHA --> vs 7 --> Loveland
11 Ohio State, B1G --> anywhere but Pedo State --> vs 6 --> Allentown (nope, conflict!)
12 Massachusetts, HE --> vs 5 --> Albany
13 Arizona State, Indy --> vs 4 --> Allentown
14 Michigan, B1G --> vs 3 --> Worcester
17 Harvard, ECAC --> anywhere but Cornell --> vs 2 --> Albany
23 AIC, AHA --> vs 1 --> Loveland
The 3 seeds are messed up by the B1G Problem. Since Lowell and Bemidji are each good hits for their regional assignments, I judge the least disruptive change to be flipping Ohio State and Massachusetts. That gives us these final brackets:
1 North Dakota, NCHC --> Loveland
2 Mankato, WCHA --> Albany
3 BC, HE --> Worcester
4 Cornell, ECAC --> Allentown
5 Minnesota-Duluth, NCHC--> Albany
6 Pedo State, B1G --> Allentown host
7 Denver, NCHC --> Loveland host
8 Clarkson, ECAC --> Worcester
9 Lowell HE --> Worcester
10 Bemidji, WCHA --> Loveland
11 Ohio State, B1G --> Albany
12 Massachusetts, HE --> Allentown
13 Arizona State, Indy --> Allentown
14 Michigan, B1G --> Worcester
17 Harvard, ECAC --> Albany
23 AIC, AHA --> Loveland

From jtw's post, 15-Northeastern and 16-QU were replaced by the two auto bids.

I'd flip Cornell and ASU to Albany with Mankato and Harvard in Allentown.
That way if the high seeds won the second round in those two venues are 4 vs 5 and 2 vs 6.
Your second round is 4 vs 6 and 2 vs 5.

Agree, plus it actually brings some fans to Albany. Before the flip, the closest school is Harvard and we know how many fans they'll bring.
With the flip it doesn't effect Mankato as they have to fly. It might actually make it easier, as I suspect they could easily fly to Philly, rent a car and drive.
It makes it easier for (T)OSU fans to drive, 7 vs. 9 hours.
ASU has same issues as Mankato.

The only pure seeding integrity conference conflict is 6 Pedo State / 11 Ohio State.
So, we can start from the 2-seeds because they have less freedom (#hostssuck):
5 Minnesota-Duluth, NCHC--> Albany or Worcester
6 Pedo State, B1G --> Allentown host
7 Denver, NCHC --> Loveland host
8 Clarkson, ECAC --> Albany or Worcester
then we backtrack to the 1-seeds to max out second round integrity:
1 North Dakota, NCHC --> vs 8 Clarkson in Albany or Worcester
2 Mankato, WCHA --> vs 7 in Loveland
3 BC, HE --> vs 6 Pedo State in Allentown
4 Cornell, ECAC --> vs 5 Minnesota-Duluth in Albany or Worcester
Give North Dakota Albany on propinquity.

Start with pure integrity plus North Dakota --> Albany

So, it looks like you were right, Marty. They put BC in Worcester for attendance and also moved their 1R partner Michigan there. Cornell and the host will get people to Allentown. Clarkson should have a good crowd in Albany and the Sioux travel well. And Loveland will have no trouble at all.
See you all Friday for the first games.

Worcester: 3 BC upset by 5 Minnesota-Duluth

So we have half the Frozen Four field: #5 Minnesota-Duluth, the two-time defending national champion, and #7 Denver. Each team was its regional's 2-seed.

If you scored a goal during the regular season you have a non-zero chance of being in the lineup and thus scoring. Clearly there was some combination of circumstances where Mike elected to play him and, presto, he was right!

Hvd 1 0 1 - 2 Den 0 3 1 - 4 1 09 H 1-0 2 00 D 1-1 2 03 D 1-2 2 13 D 1-3 3 11 H 2-3 3 16 D 2-4
So we have half the Frozen Four field: #5 Minnesota-Duluth, the two-time defending national champion, and #7 Denver. Each team was its regional's 2-seed.
I'm not exactly sure whether these teams play each other in the SF.
The brackets with the #1 and #4 overall seeds meet in one semi, and the brackets with #2 and #3 overall meet in the other. So Denver would play UMD,

Are we saying 1-4/2-3 because thats how it worked out or because that the way it was set up? I didnt think they reseeded ?

I don't think they reseed. It is based on the 1-4 bracket of 16 at the start of the regionals.

It's definitely fixed brackets. It is logical that the 1 and 4 brackets are matched. I should have remembered.

What is the proper pronunciation? (Asking for a friend)
* Peddo State?
* PEEdough State?
* Depends if you're American or British?

In the UK it is PEE-dough State. In the US it is PED-oh State.

Today at noon on slack, the livestream of #4 Cornell playing #6 Pedo State. The winner advances to the Frozen Four in Detroit.
#5 Minnesota-Duluth (the two-time defending national champion) and #7 Denver have each advanced from their regions. In Albany, #1 North Dakota is currently underway against #9 Lowell and we should have the result prior to the start of our game.

The USCHO virtual simulation of the imaginary quarter-finals shows B.C.men defeating Cornell men. This is SO wrong. Somebody ought to publish a rebuttal, with at least five pages of statistics and arithmatec carried out to the 4th decimal place!
