I asked Coach about next year's OOC schedule at the Q&A at the Fortress pre-game reception.
North Dakota at Lynah (2) - per a player's parents this is our opener
CU at Arizona State (2) - although Mike said something about a tournament, so I'm not sure if they are both vs. ASU
Yale at MSG
AIC at Lynah
Cornell at Providence

That's a wild opener. This year's #1 team with six games under its belt to our zero. But if you can convince NoDak to come to Lynah you jump on that opportunity.

It's parents weeekend. Unfortunately for us hockey fans, the Statler is blocked off and reserved for the parents. Or at least that's how it worked when we were first year parents a couple of years ago.

I could see them playing some CIS teams for 1/4 of their schedule. CIS is developing into a league that has now surpassed CHL and some could debate is on par with the NCAA.

According to CHN, Arizona State is playing in a tournament in Milwaukee on Dec 28 & 29. That makes it unlikely that we'll be playing them on Jan 1st and 2nd.

If we're playing them, I think it'll be the Dec 4 & 5 weekend.

Out in Las Vegas I heard Schafer say, I thought, that we're not going back to the Las Vegas Fortress Invitational tournament (that part I heard clearly), we're going to [a tournament?] at Arizona State. Athough A-State's arena seats about 750 people. One of Schafer's goals was to expose the younger players to multiple 10,000-plus-seat arenas in preparation for a run in the NCAAs. Maybe that was what was penciled in the first week of January but hadn't been locked down.

Meanwhile, regarding games right around the first of the year, could there be a more bitter cold time to play at Clarkson / St. Lawrence than Jan. 8-9? Please let it not be on the St. Lawrence.

Now that the Florida / Everblades tournament is in the rear view mirror for Cornell, we can see it for what it was - a nice long weekend for Cornell fans who happen to be doing Christmas week in Florida, and Florida Cornellians. But it was held pretty soon after Christmas, 2-3-4 days after, so the players had a short holiday time with families. And it was a medium-size-rink setting, no towering upper level. Fun while it lasted.

ASU plays a few games each season at the Coyotes' arena in Glendale. According to the spreadsheet linked off the USCHO forum, the field for the tournament is ASU, Cornell, Air Force and Nebraska Omaha.

ASU has plans for a new multipupose arena. They had hoped to break ground last year, issuing an RFP last spring. [azbex.com] I see, however, that it's been pushed out to 3rd quarter of 2020.
[www.construction.com] Maybe the proposals came in unexpectedly high ad they had to do some value engineering. Wheny aimed for a 3Q2019 start, the target was the opening of the 2022-2023 hockey season, so now they're looking at '23-'24.

But sometimes folks and forums are lucky...

Not sure if we can achieve #60 in Strength of Schedule but this sounds like a move in that direction.

This - a tournament in Arizona - is as Schafer had mention in Las Vegas when he said Cornell would not be returning to Vegas in 2020-21.

ASU would have been an NCAA team this year.

This year's PWR:
 1 Cornell
13 Arizona State
30 UNO
48 Air Force

Our opponents have a mean of 30 which is exactly average.

The 2020-2021 hockey season is only six months away. I read pandemics usually display a second spike in contagion rate, particularly in the fall. What are the odds we will have a full college hockey schedule next year?
No idea but the Spanish flu had two very serious years.

True, but back then, people thought "fresh air" could cure the flu, too.
ah yes, how times have changed.

Yeah, but back then the President was a Democrat who believed in science and expertise. Now, at least until Jan. 2021, the President is a Republican who doesn't. And it's the 21st century, so we've had over 100 years to evolve. What could possibly go wrong?

Added the North Dakota home games and Yale at MSG to schedule, although I hate both of them.

Yale doesn't add anything and North Dakota will likely have played at least 4 actual games prior to us. That doesn't include exhibition games.

I could easily see us losing both and then having to go all season trying to make up for it, much like 2 years ago.

Granted losing to UND is better than losing to MSU, but not much.

Sure we could win and be on top of the world, but I would not put any of my money on it.

I'd much rather have seen UND at MSG and 2 midlevel schools to open with.

But "You can't always get what you want". Maybe it'll turn out to be "what (we) need".

And as long as the Ivies do this to us we have no flexibility and will be at a disadvantage.

Maybe Mike knows the Ivy limit is about to be dropped and we'll have played 4 games by then. upto

I certainly don’t underestimate the team, but a team that has already played 4 games is just going to have an advantage. Not that they are guaranteed to win, but they have had a chance to see how their strategy of play and players works out. They can then adjust. That’s a major advantage.

Since the Ivy League presidents just voted against allowing spring sports seniors to have another year of eligibility, I think the chance that they will ever add the extra games is as close to 0 as you can get.

It's more likely that the Ivy League will secede from the NCAA this year than change the idiotic rule.

Coach Schafer also has a chance to study films of their games and develop strategy for beating them. My money's on Schaf, UND adavantage or no!

Given the fact that North Dakota does not have a large fan base in the tri-state area, it doesn't make sense for them to play Cornell at MSG. They would probably be more interested in playing a holiday game in a big arena in the Midwest, like in Chicago or Minneapolis.

The flip side is that their passionate fan base might like the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving weekend in NYC

They put 10,000 people in MSG when they played Boston College there.

They sold out Vegas vs. Minnesota with almost all North Dakota fans.

They are playing a game next year in Nashville (hopefully)

They would sell out the moon if there was a game there.

This. If you've ever seen the NoDak crowd at a regional you know the entire state will fly anywhere to see them play. Their fan base is just as rabid as ours, and in addition they are much larger, much drunker, much older, and, somehow, much whiter. They're the thought experiment what if the 1920s Klan liked hockey.

Despite the uncertainty of all NCAA sports, should there be a hockey season 2020-2021, has a complete schedule of CU opponents be announced at this point other than North Dakota and Yale at MSG, I'm anxious to hear the remaining non conferenced opponents assuming the Iyy's stick with the 29 game limit.
