The guy pulling up might've saved him, because he hit him from far enough away from the boards that he didn't really hit him into the boards.

Kaldis came in behind a BU player near the boards after the play was dead and pushed him, he stumbled and fell. Yanni could have easily pulled up after the whistle. It was dangerous AF and the guy fell in a way where if he'd been a foot closer to the boards he could have been very seriously injured. I'd have given Kaldis a 5 and game for intent to injure. They didn't. We are lucky.

Galajda has really been able to see the play well. A couple highlight eel* saves and just generally solid play, except for a couple juicy rebounds.

And for a guy with nothing on the board, Bauld has been huge all night. He and Cam have saved our butts after a couple bad errors by Kaldis and Mitchell.

Stienberg is going to be a beast someday.

* Edit: I'm keeping this. It's what I'd call my sports clips show.

I don't think the play was dead. I think the guy was looking up either because he was frustrated with his shot result or because he was actually watching the puck in the air. I wonder if Kaldis came in so hard because he was expecting the guy to keep moving, rather than pull up and gaze upwards.

Final 2-zip. 15th career shutout for Galajda. 9-0-0 for the first time since the Perfect Season, exactly 50 years ago. On to Lynah East.

Check out where we were the last time we went to 9-0-0. The other two times were in 1966-67 (against Harvard at Lynah) and 1910-11 (against Columbia at St. Nicholas Rink on the northeast corner of 66th Street and 9th Avenue in New York City).

How was the attendance? I went to the '15 & '17 Red Hot games and it seemed like there was a 5k drop in attendance which seemed odd since we had some rough years leading up to 2015 and have only improved since then.

I’d say it was a bit better than in ‘17, with probably an uptick in CU fans and maybe a bit fewer BU fans.

It was while the puck was in play, falling back from the rafters. I have no idea what Kaldis was thinking - he could have tried to box him out for position on the falling puck but he just flat drilled the guy in the back. Yes, lucky it wasn't a major. DQ maybe a bit much.

Attendance was disappointing but the crowd that was there was loud. The overall play was very good but both teams had the same problem - trying to be too fancy or thread the puck through tight spaces and both teams mostly had the remedy - good positioning and fast stick work. We were MUCH better along the boards and it was the difference in the game. Even when we weren't generating shots, we were maintaining possession and (especially in the third) draining the clock. It was really great to watch.

Hell of a game.

I am sorry I wasn't able to get to the game this year. But now that I live in Spain, the trip was just a bit more inconvenient than when we lived in Philly. This year would have been particularly nice to see, since the Red are good and playing well. In past years, the RHH games have seen CU spit the bit.

I'll wear my Cornell Hockey hat on game days here in Sitges and give all the local English speakers from Czechia, Germany, and Scandinavia something to ask me about. The Brits don't care about hockey.

LGR!

cornell played well in spots.. first time all yr a team has been coming with speed and gotten by the D consistently. The soft passing leads to some pretty plays but also some TOs that almost cost us. 2-3 spots where we just dominated, early we let BC roam with the puck a bit but not really generate too many close shots. A goalie playing well always makes the D look better

but it thought after the sluggish start we played better than we played all of last week. Regardless of BUs record they still have some solid offensive talent to not let roam free and we did that most of the night. A few times we let 1 guy though weave most of the way thru 3-4 guys which is always scary.

Barron not playing in beast mode which he was for a few games and still dominating is good to see.. Lots of guys on this team can make people pay.

I thought Barron looked physically strong. He wasn't given much room but was still able to keep the puck and even develop plays. He was just in a phone booth most of the night with some good BU defenders.

This felt like a 1R NCAA game. Not much consolation for the 2018 1R loss, but if they can play like this in March maybe they will play in April.

Having attending every one of these BU games at MSG, I thought for all their high draft picks, this year’s BU team was the least dynamic. But also our defense played with more poise and for the most part we were smart with the puck, so that played a part as well. And Galajda was terrific; maybe only one or two “wow” saves, but his positioning was sublime, making tough saves look easy.

We were tentative the 1st period, but really took over the game early in the 2nd. And even though we didn’t score in the 3rd, I though that was our strongest period.

Nice to take care of business. Should be a good one in Cambridge next Friday.

On Tuesday I watched BC's goalie, Knight, who's getting lots of hype (maybe because he was selected 13th in the 2019 draft). And on Saturday, I watched Galajda. Knight gave up two goals; Galajda, none. I thought both are excellent but didn't see worlds of difference between the two of them. Then again, I'm not a NHL scout.

FWIW, according to this site, BC has a dozen NHL draft picks, including 3 first-rounders. BU also has a dozen, but only one first-rounder. Harvard has nine picks, with one second-rounder being the highest. And we have six, with two third-rounders (Green and Stienburg) being the highest.

Thankfully, hockey is a team sport.

15,142/18,202 capacity (hockey) = 83%

The biggest arenas Cornell will or could play in this season:
20,000 T-Mobile Arena, Jan. 3-4
19,515 Little Caesars Arena, Detroit (NCAA frozen four)

Knight is likely regarded as a better prospect because he is 6'3. Galajda, at 6'0, would fall in the bottom-8th percentile of NHL goalies.

While not as good as some of the BU teams in past years, that team on the ice didn't look too bad. I'm a bit surprised their record is what it is. That may be the greater parity in the HEA this season with so many teams on the bubble and only one team in that conference well separated in the pairwise (BC)

“If they stay together” has been the issue with BU, BC, Minnesota and a few other elite programs the past few years. Getting the blue chippers hasn’t been all that it’s been cracked up to be, since it leads to lots of roster turnover and a lack of cohesion.

If TBRW is to be believed, last night was the first time we've ever shut out BU. That hardly seems possible, but wow.

Faster way to the same list. I'd not have guessed it either!

Though some would argue our first game against them in 2002 should have been a shutout: [elf.elynah.com], [elf.elynah.com]
boy that guy sounds too sincere to survive online

That was fun stroll down memory lane. I was fortunate enough to make it back to Lynah for those two games. I don't think I had a more enjoyable weekend of games at Lynah, coming out of those games elated thinking that Cornell could again be a top tier Div I team. There was a great quote from Jack Parker after the games where he said (I'm paraphrasing) that watching his team play Cornell was like watching boys play against men.

I missed the first but made it back for the second. My favorite was the small guy who tried to check Murray and looked like a deer getting hit by a train.

That's pretty close to verbatim. I still remember it fondly, especially after we'd split the pair at BU a year earlier.

Page 62 of that same link above references our Dec. 1972 forfeit win which I mentioned in my Dec. 1 posting on this thread.
