SOG 15-6 Clarkson favor.
First period seemed to belong to Clarkson.
Warm in Florida but so far away.

Malone and Regush just had a great shift, followed up by Cam being unable to get off and so getting on with Barron where they worked some very clever magic in front and nearly created a goal from nothing.

That Regush shift changed all the momentum and we have ripped off 7 straight SOG since then. Nearly netted a third and now back on the kill after Dirven takes down a streaking man with a head man pass.

Even game overall, but uneven throughout with the teams alternating control. A fun game to watch between two excellent teams, unless you have a rooting interest.

Cornell was getting thoroughly dominated through the first 30:45 and finally managed to create some sustained offensive pressure following the 9:15 TV timeout. Clarkson has been the far better team overall tonight in all facets besides goaltending, so in that sense a 2-2 score going into the third is above expectation. I believe that both the Clarkson 5x5 goal and the Cornell penalty that led to the other Clarkson goal were created in transition. Not really great to give up two goals in transition when you're up by two on the road against a good team and you've nearly made it to the third period. With that said, not sure to what degree the goals were caused by Cornell playing too aggressively. They seemed to be in position on the second Clarkson goal and the CLK forward rang a nice shot off the post(?). Couldn't tell if Galajda was screened. On the first CLK goal, it looked like Barron got tangled with a CLK and Cornell player near Galajda leaving a CLK player wide open for the cross-ice feed. Very similar to at least one and maybe both of CLK's first-period PP goals in the ECAC championship game last year.

Cornell came to play in the third. CLK really took it to them in the first half of the game, but Cornell controlled play for nearly all of the third. Some slick moves by Donaldson on the play that led to the GWG. Would have been all sorts of ironic had Donaldson's GWG been overturned for an offsides that happened 30 seconds before the goal, seven months after the ECAC Championship GWG came five seconds after a missed offsides call.

I was thinking the same thing; I expect many were.

That was one of the best games I've seen in a long time. Intense, fast, relatively clean. Fantastic.

I saw the second period and the last three minutes of the third, so I missed the dominant Clarkson first. What I did see, though, is that Clarkson is miles ahead of MSU, Yale or Brown. That's a *good* team we beat tonight, in their house. FWIW, I really liked the Clarkson guy calling the game on ESPN. No chatter, clean recitation of the action, no homerism except in the understandable enthusiasm distinction on the goal calls for the two teams.

In the second, they looked like two very evenly matched teams. Clarkson keeps their sticks on the ice and makes passing around them very difficult when you're in transition or looking to set up. On offense, they are very good at finding each other and open ice. We broke through first because we're better along the wall, we are persistent and we finished better. (Except for Cairns, who blew the easiest goal opportunity he'll see all year. Even if he scores again, it's unlikely to be on as clean a chance.) The first Clarkson goal was a pretty snipe on the power play. The second, a defensive lapse and maybe even one that Galajda wishes he could have back.

Gotta go watch the replay for our third goal.

Great game. This is a really fun team to watch.

Just saw the game on replay and I’ll echo what many have said. Wildly entertaining game by two excellent teams who seemingly alternated dominant shifts for much of the night, with Clarkson having an edge in the 1st, and Cornell in the 3rd. That Brosseau—Egle line is scary (it seemed like they were on the ice for 40 minutes), and they gave us all we could handle. Galajda came up huge immediately prior to Regush’s empty net goal when the Clarkson guy was all alone in front, and Galajda made a point-blank save.

I thought in the 1st period we tried to be a bit too pretty with our passes, but as the game went on we simplified things and it worked to our advantage.

While I’d love to win every game in blowout fashion, tonight was a classic playoff-style battle.

I agree completely. His calls for Knights goals were over the top but everything else was pure class and professionalism.

Our last player to average 1 point per game played for the season was Greg Miller in 2013.

Currently, Morgan Barron, Sam Malinski, Max Andreev, Alex Green, Michael Regush, Yanni Kaldis, Cam Donaldson, Joe Leahy, and Liam Motley are.

People forget because of how good Barron is, but for long stretches of last year Donaldson was the best offensive threat on the team. The winning goal illustrates how good his vision and hands are. Donaldson ends up scoring on an open net, but the goaltender is never out of position if Donaldson isn't able to--in a split second--receive Green's pass, identify Berard is wide open in the opposite circle, put the puck on his backhand, backhand a pass straight to Berard's tape for the one-timer, and then, when the rebound drops nearby, collect the puck and flick it high into the net above the diving goaltender.

Last year, after the game at Q, I wrote about how Donaldson’s skating and stick handling remind me of another #7, Doug Ferguson. Considering Doug’s record(s), that’s high praise indeed.

I thought cornell had the better transition and passing most of the game.. Clarkson did a good job of 1x1 puck control along the walls but rarely generated anything into good scoring areas where as cornell created multiple chances into dangerous spots.

Clarkson was very good with the sticks taking pucks out of the air on our soft passing plays and that created most of their offense. When we were crisp passing we were very dangerous.

Letting them back in up 2 is a lesson learned I hope.

The D needs to be a little more solid getting the puck out of the back end instead of always looking for the breakout pass, those passes led to a few scary moments.

The past few years we have been getting lots of odd man rushes and not getting as many goals as we would like. This yr fewer of those rushes but more goals off very solid multiple pass plays which is great to see.. And we did it last night without Barron sniping a goal but playing a solid game as did much of the team. the offense is playing well. Just clean up some of the clearing mistakes and i was a good game on the road against a dangerous team

What’s extremely encouraging for a Schafer-coached team is that the team needs improvement most in the areas Schafer teams have historically been most outstanding. I expect that by January, if not sooner, these things will be in the past. Especially bear in mind that we replaced 3 senior blue-liners with fresh.

a goal from fr/so/jr/sr take that every game

Cornell was behind in faceoffs won after first period but ended up winning 29 of 52 for the game. I realize not as big a stat as in lax but seemed to help with momentum in the 2nd ... and another promising sign.

The only serious mistakes I noticed the last three games were lazy/poorly conceived clears by Dmen: one each by Mitchell, Malinski, and of all people Kaldis. That's basically it. A couple guys blew tires, that's not their fault. A couple guys got beaten by their man at the end of long, tiring shifts; again, it happens.

They're playing like they're all seniors right now. It's something to see.

I am certain there will be rough patches but right now I'm just trying not to be over the moon with what I've seen.

Now watch SLU blows them out 10-0. ;-)

Note to team: avoid the Canton Pizza Hut.

Cornell came to play in the third. CLK really took it to them in the first half of the game, but Cornell controlled play for nearly all of the third.

This probably explains the oddball shot stats. Cornell was pretty dominant in terms of total even strength shot attempts, but SOG were pretty even in the third and Clarkson clearly controlled the entire first period. If Cornell was dominating but not hitting the net as often that'd account for it.

Finishing a game like that strong is good. Cornell's best teams under Schafer have generally been deep enough to wear out even top tier competition and take control over the third period, so if that's what happened here it bodes well for the rest of the season.

Great play by Locke on the boards behind the net to create that goal 1 sequence.

Malone's hard work in the zone before goal 2.

Cam's great hustle on both goals 1 and 3.

And just really good hockey throughout.

Cam's great hustle on both goals 1 and 3.

And his patience on goal 3. He realized he had enough time to pull the puck back to give himself a reasonable angle. He easily could have just tried to swat it in from a much tougher angle and missed.
