After 2 periods: Princeton 2 Cornell 1

2-2 with about 7 minutes to go in the third.

Cornell's second goal was the result of a really impressive individual effort, ending with a wrap-around goal.

Heading into OT.

Princeton will have 57 seconds left on a power play to start the OT.

Third was almost all Cornell. Great fight; I'm really hoping they can pull this off. If they can get over this hump the sky's the limit.

Also the no checking rule should go the way of corsets and side saddle.

They've been letting so much go I was pretty surprised they whistled that one with 1:03 to go in a tie game.

Quite a game so far. Cornell had the better of the 3rd period but left themselves exposed a few times when defensemen were caught pinching in the offensive zone. The season likely comes down to this overtime, as a loss might put them outside the NCAAs while a win should seal their tourney bid.

Gutsy effort by the Cornell team -- to score 3 unanswered goals and win in double OT.

Great game, great effort, and great goals in front of the biggest and loudest crowd of the season! On to ECAC Championship Game and NCAA tournament!

Edit: reported attendance was just over 1100, but I don’t believe it. Looked and sounded like 1600+

The Cornell women are currently fifth in pairwise, behind Clarkson. The top four host an NCAA first-round game, right? Are Cornell's chances of finishing fourth better if Colgate beats Clarkson or if Clarkson beats Colgate (in which case Cornell would clearly need to beat Clarkson to have any chance of top four.)

Here is a pairwise calculator. [www.bcinterruption.com]

Cornell can only get the 4th spot if they win the ECAC Championship Game (vs. either Colgate or Clarkson) AND [Northeastern OR Boston University] win Hockey East.

The potential outcomes have narrowed down considerably given the stratification in the pairwise rankings, even before the result of Ohio State-Wisconsin tonight and the championships tomorrow: (assuming NCAA tournament seeding follows pairwise exactly, which it hasn't always in the past for seeds 5-8).

Cornell loss to Clarkson: 6th seed at 3. Northeastern

Cornell beats Clarkson:
---if B.C. beats Northeastern: 5th seed at 4. B.C.
---if Northeastern beats B.C.: 4th seed vs. 5. Clarkson.

Clarkson 2 Colgate 0, final.

ECAC Final: Clarkson @ Cornell, meeting in the championship game for the 4th time in ten years.

I only saw the game after the score was 2-1. Looking at the highlights, I can't understand why the starting goaltender was pulled? The first goal was a dipping shot through a heavy screen. The second just looked to me like a sweet play.

The backup certainly was outstanding though. Great game. Really enjoyed it.

Boissonault (Cornell’s starting goalie) was not playing poorly, but the team was playing a little too desperately at the start of the 2nd, down 1-0. Princeton’s goal to go up 2-0 resulted from having too many Red players going forward and a turnover on an exit pass, leaving Boissonault a bit exposed. This was a really expert coaching move from Derraugh to get the team to settle down and not take too many risks at that point in the game and connect more passes together. They didn’t want the game to play out like their 5-0 loss to Princeton earlier this year.

If one of Cornell and Clarkson is in the top 4 and the other is in the unseeded 5-8, the committee will match us up, plain and simple. Both schools would have to fly to many teams, but if you match us up, both can drive. Makes a lot of logistical sense when you consider how much more important location is to the NCAA Whockey selection committee than on the men's side.

I'd prefer it if they had the ECAC teams each play at the HE teams, so they didn't repeat the conference finals. Of course they won't do that.
