this team has created some serious A+ scoring chances and not sure they have scored on any of them. Probably 10 chances on the doorstep tonight and i think the missed the puck on almost all of them

Recap.
To these old internet eyes:
Schafer was attending his older brother's funeral.
Cornell played very well over all.
Galajda was solid as were the D-men. Haiskenken was back from injury and Cairns stepped into full rotation after Green was injured in the first. The Green injury was an accident of timing -- he jumped for a puck and was turned into a fidget spinner.
Barron, Kaldis and Donaldson were terrific in the offensive end. No fluke they were the goal scorers (Cam's was soft but he was at the center of several other opportunities).
Locke has been upgraded to a significant role, matched with Donaldson and Vanderlaan. Vanderlaan has been a more understated, worker-bee player. It's odd (heartening I guess?) to see such quality players on what amounts to a blue collar line. All the lines have some sort of scoring threat.
The Bauld/Mallot/Betts line spent the night inside the jerseys of the Yale first line -- it looks like that's going to be their role. They were exhausted by the end and Snively was starting to pick them apart, but they held on long enough to give us the chance of the win.
Andreev is the real thing. He doesn't just have flash; he looks authoritative out there and his linemates already seem to trust and defer to him.
Topher noted Green was in the building in the third period so the stretcher may have been mostly precautionary.

Yale’s defense is very soft, and we should’ve had about 8 goals. Locke was robbed in the 2nd period on what would’ve made it 4-1 and decreased the stress factor significantly.

At some point some of the really solid chances have to start going in some of the time..
The key to the season will be the sloppy passes in the D end.. they were cut down tonight, but still you cant have those mistakes when you are not under pressure and we still had 7 to 10 of those. You have to limit those mistakes to ones being forced, and not self induced. and dont take the dumb penalty down a man !!!
great pressure, nice cycles, got into the offensive end with speed over and over
we dont have that sniper so its got to be a work ethic thing to score and they are working hard.

Kaldis may be the sniper. That means there will be times when they are vulnerable to the counter attack.
Last Fall, Schafer said he wanted the D to jump up into the play more. Welp, he's got it, with every D except Smith and Haiskanen pressing and shooting when they see a chance.
Trading 1 more GA to score 2 more GF seems sound to me as long as variance doesn't increase our losses.

Crazy looking at the USCHO stats. Yes, a sample of three in a long season is not indicative, but strange to see us near the bottom in terms of defense, goaltending, penalty kill, etc.
Galajda really didn't get much time, and even less work, in the exhibition games. This may have led to his subpar performance against Michigan State. He looked much better last night, and the team didn't surrender an even strength goal.
Hopefully Green will be back soon and we will have our first [full] game with all our defensive regulars in the lineup.

To me, the stats are promising: significantly outshooting our opponents all three games. What's unfortunate is that unless Michigan State is better than advertised, it's going to be very difficult pulling our PWR out of the gutter, no matter how good we actually are.margolism

Keep in mind that these days, PWR is pretty much just RPI. Only exception is if team A beats team B in both head-to-head AND common opponents, but is behind in RPI.
RPI cares about your record, your opponents' records, and your opponents' opponents' records. Setting aside the home/away factor and the bonus to keep weak wins from hurting you, the record factor and the opponent factors are entirely separate.
What this means is that losing to a weak team and beating a strong team is roughly equivalent to beating the weak team and losing to the strong team. If we win a lot of games, the two MSU games won't crush us.

Oh that's absolutely true, but assuming MSU is as bad this season as they've been the past few years, we'd need to do VERY well the rest of the way to cancel out these losses.Dafatone
