Women’s program has the tallest and shortest goalies between both programs. Just thought that was interesting.

"Athena Song"

"Andong Song is the son of Yu Song and Bei Gao, and he has one brother and one sister."

Hmm.

Edit: prolly not. She's from St. Louis, a fair distance from Beijing.

Interesting that all this year’s freshman class is American. We’ve been heavily Canadian over Derraugh’s tenure, so not sure what this says about talent and recruiting.

The Colgate head Greg Fargo was women's D1 coach of the year last year. At Colgate since 2012. Every player who 10 or more points last year is back. New rink. Maybe free pizza at games?

Shots were 36 - 7 for Cornell!
Freshman looked GOOD! and team play was excellent for this early in season.

Sunday the 14th, 3 PM exhibition against Buffalo Beauts admission is FREE - If you can get there do so - should be a good game!

The women win in a good game 5-2 and looked really good for a large part of the game against the visiting Buffalo Beauts. The crowd was small but enthusiastic and the band was loud and fun!

P.S. The free T-shirts are much appreciated!

P.P.S. Next Saturday 20th of October is the Red and White scrimmage - -

Big RED Women are at home at 3PM game start both Friday and Saturday:

John A. Gaines IV '67, Editor - Cornell University
Women's Ice Hockey Coach's Club 2018-2019 Newsletter #6

... it is time for the home opening weekend for Ivy League and ECAC play with traditional rivals Harvard and Dartmouth coming to town. Following the Dartmouth game the Cornell Women's Hockey Association (CWHA) will be hosting their Annual Afterglow honoring our seniors. Note that both the Friday Harvard and Saturday Dartmouth games are at 3:00 pm.
...
CORNELL OPENS LEAGUE PLAY WITH HARVARD ON FRIDAY AT 3:00 PM
The Crimson began their season last weekend at home against travel partner Dartmouth and came away with the 3-1 win. The Big Green lit the lamp first at the mid-point of the first period, but then it was all Harvard. Freshman #12 Dominique Petrie got two of the goals and classmate #29 Lindsay Reed got her first victory in net making 25 saves. Head Coach Katey Stone returns for her 23rd season behind the bench. Many fans will recall that she took the 2013-2014 season off to coach the USA Olympic team to a silver medal in Sochi. Last season the Crimson went 13-16-2 overall and 10-10-2 in the ECAC. They fell to Colgate in the quarterfinals of the ECAC Tournament. Against The Big Red last season Harvard did surprisingly well - losing a 4-3 at Lynah in January, but coming back for a 2-2 OT tie at Cambridge in February. Coach Stone and Harvard are always a threat in any rink so this one should keep the Cornell-Harvard rivalry going. The 3:00 pm face-off is a problem for some fans, but get to Lynah if you possibly can. The players love your loud support.

I just realized that no one posted the women's Harvard/Dartmouth results. They won fairly handily against each opponent. Last night they came from behind to beat Yale 4-3. I am not sure if we were sloppy around our own net or the Yale goals were the result of deflections that we were powerless to control. Hard to tell when watching on a screen. In any event, we looked better at home last week than we did in New Haven last night [against a winless Yale team].

Brown at 3 this afternoon.

I heard the annoying Brown announcer say something about Cornell being short some of their key players, and I havent seen O’Neill, Bourbenais or Hart—any idea why they’re out?

Ok, thanks. And despite their absence, no way we should’ve lost that game. Up 2-1 we had numerous chances on the PP, but (like the men last night) couldn’t bury them. And Boissenault was not on her game all weekend.

Really impressive 4 point weekend for the Red! To my eyes, they've definitely stepped their performances up a notch. Against St. Lawrence, it was a tactical masterclass. They managed to play an aggressive forecheck all game long without conceding too many good chances the other way. Boissonault looked really solid in net, but wasn't called upon especially often thanks to great defending. Against two of the best teams perennially in the league, the Red earned clearcut and decisive victories. The Lynah crowd is starting to show up for the women more now (attendance has risen after each home game so far), and at this rate I think they'll draw over 1000 a bunch of times in the next semester. Looking positive going into the break period!

Final was 5-0 for Princeton. Princeton played very fast and had a potent fore-check going. Cornell did not play as well as we are capable of (mild understatement!).

I hope we get another shot at them in playoffs!

Princeton looked fast and skilled. We’ll need to play much better to beat them next time.

Colgate ties it at 2 early in the third period and really were playing very well but twice after some sustained pressure gave the Cornell a breakaway and we cashed in both. First, Curlew finished a 2 on 1 and then Graham skated in all alone. Up 4-2 with time winding down.

In a classic Tuesday non-league trap game, the women fell behind Syracuse 2-0 in the 1st 9 minutes before coming back for a 5-2 win. The Red was losing 2-1 late into the 2nd before tying it up, then scored 3 in the 3rd to pull away.

The women also cruise past RPI 5-0. They have outscored their last three [admittedly not-very-good] opponents 17-0. Clarkson in Potsdam next weekend will be a closer contest I suspect.

Small thing: The 17-0 CU run is since Syracuse took a 2-0 lead Tuesday.

I found it somewhat interesting that CU threw everything it had at RPI on the power play in the last minute of a 4-0 game (in what I assume was a bid to get Kristen O’Neill the hat trick). I don’t have a problem with it, but it seemed a smidge out of character for a Doug Derraugh-coached team.

Given the variables in the NCAA tournament selection process, every point means something at this stage of the season.

RPI takes a penalty, they should expect to see Cornell's standard power play, even late in the game. Had they been skating 5 on 5 in the closing minutes, the lines might have been different. I watched the game but wasn't paying that close attention to the ice time.
