Does nobody proofread anymore? The headline refers to the #6 women, and the first words of the article call them the #5 women. Good lord!

Yes I know...Get off my lawn!

and reading further the article states

Colgate up 4-1 in the 2nd.

Two quick Cornell goals, and it's 4-3 with under 4 minutes left.

EDIT: Sorry, 4:25 left in the 3rd.

Colgate scores on the PP with one second left in regulation for the 5-4 lead. :-(

EDIT: 5-4 final, obvs.

I wish I could have seen the penalty. The announcers didn't see it and said it was behind the play, an interference call. Hopefully it was a blatant offense, to call a penalty that didn't look like it had anything to do with the play, with less than 1 minute to go in a 4-4 game, wow.

The infraction occurred on camera. Jaime Bourbonnais cleared out Breanne Wilson-Bennett a few feet from the Cornell net to ensure Wilson-Bennett couldn't score on a deflection or a rebound. There was no deflection (I think the contact came too late to have prevented one), and Marlène Boissonnault sent the rebound to the opposite side. So, Bourbonnais's penalty didn't save a goal.

It was the sort of contact near the net that the NHL consistently tolerated fifteen years ago. But, by either the rulebook or today's standards of officiating, it was interference.

Exciting finish to the game. I thought the Clarkson announcer left a bit to be desired, but Clarkson didn't have to televise that game so thanks to them.

With Cornell's loss, but more importantly Minnesota's win in the WCHA semifinals last night, Cornell fell from 6th to 7th in the pairwise if you exclude Saint Anselm from the rankings. With Mercyhurst from outside the top eight getting the CHA Auto bid and then Boston College not getting the Hockey East auto bid, that takes out Cornell from the NCAA Tournament. Unless, Minnesota loses the WCHA championship game and Cornell moves up one spot in the pairwise, I think Cornell is on the outside looking in.

Even if Cornell does jump Minnesota, the issue of division II Saint Anselm being eligible, versus being qualified, for the division 1 tournament this year, which seems thoroughly ridiculous after having read the reasons behind their eligibility this year, could loom large if Cornell does jump Minnesota.

Bottom line is that two out of three of Minnesota, Cornell and St Anselm are going to miss the tournament when it's announced tonight.

With Minnesota, Northeastern and Mercyhurst winning auto bids, Cornell women left out of the NCAA tournament.

Didn’t see that coming, as women’s hockey typically follows chalk
