Yale at Cornell 2/17

Yale has been scoring goals recently and have won their last 3 conference games and last 5 games overall. They've scored at least 3 goals in all the victories and seem determined to host a playoff series in the first round.

]Cornell has only four healthy everyday D-men tonight, plus Cairns. How is it that Schafer was only able to fill out a roster with six D-men who he is even comfortable playing in a game? Were Wedman's retirement and the severity of Bliss's injury not known until right before the season began? Shore was also on the roster when the year started, but Schafer wasn't confident playing him last year either, electing to move Rauter to D over him. Schafer could have considered bringing in a D-man midseason like a lot of other teams do to fill a need.

Schafer might sit him anyway. Dumb penalties.

Good point. Shafer ought to tell him after the game tonight that he's sitting next weekend regardless of the discipline the league meets out.

Did the hits look that bad to you? Impossible to tell over ILDN. Also, is there any precedent for handing out a two-game suspension for someone with no history?

Schafer should only bench him if the calls were right.

Cornell's penalty kill has been struggling for a couple games now. Doesn't Yale have the worst power play in the country? Yale has two power play goals so far...

That 2nd Yale goal wasn’t a classic power play goal, as it was just a great play with their guy undressing our D man

Not pretty, but we got the job done.

I think we just clinched first place, because even if we lose both games next weekend we've got the better record vs. Clarkson and Sucks (We're 2-1-1 and Union is 1-3).

It looks like total wins is the 2nd tiebreaker after head-to-head record. If we lose both next week and Union wins both, they go 17-5 and we go 16-4-2, giving them the tiebreak.

OK. I thought record versus the top 4 was the 2nd tiebreaker. My bad.

So just keep winning.

I thought it was pretty. Outside of the idiotic penalties, undermanned Cornell controlled play and created chances from start to finish, and completely negated Yale's final rush--basically the opposite of last night, even though both were wins. This was one of the games that makes me confident Cornell deserves a season like the one they've had.

Comments that our shooting percentage was artificially high may be apt. We got a lot of chances tonight and controlled play very well, but a lot of those chances didn't go in.

Enough did, though! Undefeated in Ivy play. Damn.

The Yale goalie made a couple saves in close that turned Yates' hair prematurely grey.

This was a good win against a hot team and a very, very good goalie.

Take it and smile.

I just saw the highlights of the game, and I’m surprised (pleasantly so) that they didn’t review our 3rd goal, as Tchantz was pretty close to the Yale goalie and from the admittedly long view I wondered if Tchantz at all impeded the goalie’s lateral movement.

But no one on Yale seemed to gripe, so it probably wasn’t as close as it may have seemed to me.

The voters seem to stupidly only look at numbers for those honors, and at under half-a-point per game, Kaldis's numbers don't jump out. He logs a massive number of minutes per game and skates circles around opponents, but he turns the puck over a decent amount and I'm not even sure he's the best defenseman on the team (which says more about the defensemen on the team than it does about Kaldis).

I was in the chat but also in section O. As Yanni was working his magic I was in awe. I didn't expect the goal but he deserved more than half the credit.

The highlight of the night for me was the 3rd goal. I yelled YES! before Mullin touched the puck!

Yes.

Seeding for championship competition is based on total points accumulated during league contests. In the event teams are tied in the final regular-season standings, the following tiebreakers (listed in order of application) shall be used to determine seeding. (Note: Only League games apply):

1. Comparison of game results between tied teams (head to head).
2. Wins.
3. Comparison of results of games against the top four teams.
4. Comparison of results of games against the top eight teams.
5. Goal differential in head-to-head competition.
6. Goal differential in games against the top four teams.
7. Goal differential in games against the top eight teams.

In the case of ties among three or more schools, the criteria will be used in order until a team, or teams, is separated from the pack. At that point, the process will begin anew to break the "new" tie. In other words, when a four-way tie becomes a three-way tie, the three-way tie is treated as a "new" tie and the process begins with the first criterion.

How about undressing the whole team.

Watch the replay, he had 4 CU players that had a chance to stop him. Terrible play on our part.

Interesting that Clarkson, #7 in PWR, has only a 25% chance of making the NCAAs if they lose out, while Minny, #8, has a 96% chance if they lose out.
