I am really looking forward to the concert dss28 and I are attending tonight in Hartford, CT. But I admit to a bit of hope that it'll be over by 9, so I can catch most of the third period of this game on my phone.

I bet Harvard drops a lot in the Pairwise and the ECAC standings when Donato goes to PyeongChang. I hope Cornell can slow him down tonight.

Two solid periods out of three. Second period was a bit dicey, but Galajda saved our bacon. That's what good goalies do.
One other thing I just noticed is that Sucks doesn't have a lot of depth. You kept hearing the same names called over and over again.
Now let's hope there's not a let down tomorrow. Dartmouth appears to be getting hot.

nice effort.. i thought they were their own worst enemy on D.. way to many bad passes and bad decisions down deep that kept the puck in that end at times.. one of the few games this year we really didnt get many rushes thru center ice, but when we did get it into Harvards end we generate some really nice chances..
Angello is playing at a high level right now.

didn't get to a lot of this game - listened to the first 10ish minutes and watched the last 5 - and i don't think i heard the names Bowlby or Zerter-Gossage much if at all. Donato was pretty well bottled up too.

Bowlby didn't play. Zerter-Gossage did, but either didn't get a lot of ice time or wasn't really involved.
The names I kept hearing were Donato (Duh!), Badini, Kerfoot, and the other hyphen.

In the 5 minutes I watched (after I figured out it was on ESPN2) there was no difference in quality of play between ND-Minny and Cornell-Harvard. Not tempo, beauty, skill, creativity of neither passing nor playmaking were any different.

[At stop light on the way from Hartford to Bloomfield]
Me: [checks phone] Still 2-0 Cornell over Harvard, Anthony Angello with both goals, one minute left in the third.
dss28: Nice!
Me: How much you want to bet, right now the Harvard net is empty, and everyone's trying to get Angello the puck so he can score his hat trick?
dss28: I will not bet against that, because I study the maths.
[Ten seconds later, phone buzzes, shows Angello scored to make it 3-0 with one second left in the game]
Me: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

My blue Cornell baseball cap was on the ice tonight too. I’ve always wanted to throw my hat on the ice for a hat trick and tonight was first time I did so. I even got it back!
I was at Princeton last year for Malott hat trick, but I only had one hat with me and it was too cold for my bald head to risk being hatless after the game.

So tOSU beating traditional rival Michigan 4-0 makes OSU "big winners," but Cornell beating traditional rival Harvard 3-0 is holding on? i'm with you. i thought both of those teams looked very fast and skilled passing. it was also strange watching a game on an olympic sheet. encourages really wide open play and stretch passes. i'm not saying we can't hang with them - we probably roll deeper without the same top end skill - but there was some serious speed and stickhandling out there.abmarks

i will say that for as good as they looked offensively, they both looked shaky on defense. the goalies were both fantastic though.
And before it sounds like i'm running down the team, i loved all three of angello's goals. toe drag, quick turnaround, nice little touch shot from the wall at center ice (that he was patient enough to cross the red line for) into the empty net.

A fewmore quotes.
It was not a masterpiece, Cornell head coach Mike Schafer said, but his Big Red plowed through following a light week of practice as the team battled sickness.
Maybe that explains why they had so many passes, and otherplays, where they just couldn't quite make it work. If so, it speaks well for later on, but maybe not tonight. We may need to "gut it out" again.
“I’m seeing the puck well,” said Galajda, whose 13 wins are tops in the nation among first-year goaltenders. “There were a couple of plays out there that I maybe got a little lucky on tonight, but the puck seems to be bouncing our way right now and we hope to keep it rolling tomorrow night (at Dartmouth).”
Hopefully that "puck luck" keeps going our way.

USCHO: "Cornell and Minnesota were both able to hold on on Friday night . . . " A 1-0 win could fairly be a "hold on" win, but 3-0?

Was it Cornell being sloppy, or was it Harvard playing a very aggressive forecheck and giving the Red very little time and space to find/complete a pass to an open man? Cornell has had this same issue with Harvard the past few years and with Yale before that. Seems like more of a quality-of-opposition thing than a being-sloppy thing. The reality of the way this team is built is that they're going to have trouble with an aggressive forecheck by fast and skilled players. By virtue of getting faster, the Red are better at skating/passing through pressure these days than they've been in the past, in the sense that they get outshot 35-25 by these teams now rather than 55-20 (like the Yale games I watched when I was attending Cornell), but it's still the team's biggest weakness.upprdeck

its one thing to miss passes while covered. its another to throw passes 10ft off line while unpressured or throwing pucks up the wrong board or trying to carry out under pressure when open passing lanes exist. we missed a ton of passes last night on the passing and receiving end.

You may be right about Harvard's forecheck, but I saw lots of passes between two open men that didn't connect. I also saw several instances when open players didn't keep the puck on their sticks. Mike also said "It was not a masterpiece," implying that he's seen and expects better.
So combining the two thoughts: a strong forecheck is likely to cause us trouble, as it might any team, but we also can play a better possession game than we saw last night. Maybe sickness & light practices are the cause, maybe it was the import of the game, and maybe it was some other, random cause. But some of these things cannot be avoided, which may be why there's the old aphorism: "Defense wins championships"

That is unsustainably ridiculous. I hope they keep it up.

11 of which have been power play goals. Less than 1 even-strength goal per game.

Opponent extra skater goals:upprdeck
a couple with the goalie pulled too i think
2017-11-25 BU goal 2 (but also pp so we can't double count it)
2018-01-12 Yale goal 3
So: 17 even strength goals in 20 GP.

Yeah, hopefully they will, but we don't have to look too far to find out how quickly things can change. Clarkson had given up 28 goals in 22 games this season, and then last Friday coughed up 6 to Harvard. At home.
