Cornell’s roots ran deep throughout the Florida College Hockey Classic, having participated all 17 years and winning four tournament championships. Brush, himself, is a Cornell alumnus, having played hockey for the Big Red for four years, including being a member of the school’s 1970 undefeated NCAA championship team.
Despite all the shared memories, the Ivy League school’s decision to part ways with the College Classic comes down to finances.
“Cornell’s athletic director made the decision that they wanted home games at this time of the year,” Brush said. “It’s a revenue thing. When they opted out, I started talking to other schools. We want a mainstream school, but they are booked up sometimes two or three years in advance.”

So The Plan is not to go to another holiday tourney but to back and fill with home games over break? I can see that but it means a whole bunch of Canisia.

Obviously, Schafer isn't worried about losing the lure of a late-December trip to Florida having a major impact upon his recruiting.

I imagine the annual MSG game is a bigger lure anyway.

We should play in Canada. Actually, can we play in Canada if we play US colleges (c.f., the Thunderbird Classic of 1986)? Co-host a Dryden Tournament in Toronto every year with UT. Raise the profile and give our hockey alums a thrill.
We probably should have been doing it for 40 years, but better late than never.

Having attended the tournament once or twice, including the Cornell-Providence game, attendance didn't appear that great.
I think the idea of playing something in Canada is a great idea. And from a recruiting standpoint, I believe there are more Canadian prospects than Floridian prospects, Ferlin notwithstanding.

If the quote is correct and mirrors the actual thinking, then Cornell thinks the Florida tournament was bad for Cornell rather than a highlight of the season for players. Cornell needs to find something more on the order of Notre Dame for its late-December game in Ithaca. Didn’t Clarkson play SLU in Ottawa a few (or maybe ten) years ago?

If they want more revenue at Lynah, how does playing in Canada achieve that?

Without seeing your reply, I was about to post "Exchange rate." Great minds, or grating minds, all think alike.
