A point a game from Matt Buckles in the pros. You want him to do well. But not so well we don't feel he didn't play to his potential for Cornell.

I guess this is as good a place as any to put this.

Dryden just had his 70th birthday.

I'm old, but memories remain.

Ya know, it doesn't bother me at all that I age... But, when I see former athletes turn into old men and realize that I am there contemporary, it hits home...

Marinaro's jersey, left 40 years in the window at Schoellkopf field house, has faded. So have the films. One highlights clip made it look more like the Big Pink. Tick, tick, tick.

So far, what sucks about aging is friends & relatives dying or just getting very debilitating diseases. Fortunately, my health has stayed with me. But it's depressing to experience the loss of people who mean so much.

I bought a sports car this May and sent a picture to a friend. He replied, saying it looks like a mid-life crisis car. I said, mid-life at 70 sounds good to me!

The New York Times had an article this weekend about a 94-year-old guy marrying a 99-year-old cougar. (I'm taking some liberties here.) There's still hope.

Here's wishing good health and long life to everyone on this list who experienced Cornell hockey's glory years as National Champions and national powerhouse (and the rest of you), and especially to the players (like Dryden) who enriched our lives with such great memories.

I know Gert and Al, the 90+ couple who just got married. They are two amazing people. Gert's daughter Susan, who just retired from the Wellesley faculty, is a 1970 Cornell graduate.

The Class of 1971 may have had the best time of all: arriving the fall after Cornell won its first NCAA hockey title, saw three more final-four appearances and the 29-0 season, saw Ed Marinaro's first two years, saw Cornell's first lacrosse title, saw (read about) the unlikely 1971 IRA rowing title. And the basketball team had not yet sunk to the depths of 2 years later when Sports Illustrated wrote the story, Low in Cayuga's Waters. It also was the beginning of Title IX opportunities for women to attain more equal standing as athletes. I also believe spring finals were called off two of their four years on the hill on account of the war.
