Ben Scrivens named Player of the Week in the last week of December:

[en.khl.ru]

– Best goaltender was Ben Scrivens (Dinamo Minsk), with three wins in three road matches, shutting out the opposition twice and allowing just a single goal all week. The 30-year-old Canadian recorded a save percentage of 98.97 and a goals against average of 0.33 –the best individual figures in both categories;

He's putting up good numbers. Always felt he was the best player in that incredibly talented class.

Who has actually played an NHL game this year? Moulson and... anybody else?

Brings up an interesting thought. On whom would you place your money as the next Cornellian to play an NHL Game? Greening? Bardreau? Angello? I think I might take Joakim Ryan.

I would have guessed Ferlin, but he appears to be hurt. Only two games in the AHL this year.

Based upon what they're saying about him, I'll agree.

I'd bet on Ryan, too.

I like Bardreau, but he's not exactly big. He's playing on the 3rd or 4th line for the Phantoms and I don't see the Flyers calling him up anytime soon. Willcox is doing OK, but the Flyers have a crap-load of depth on D and several guys ahead of him on the Phantoms.

Went to the Phantoms game against Providence Saturday night hoping to see 3 Cornell alums on the ice. Little did I know that Ferlin was injured and Willcox had been assigned to Reading for one game. Meh.

On top of that the Phantoms lost 9-1 - the Phantoms' lone goal was scored with about a minute left. Not only did they play their safety sieve (Mark Dekanich from Colgate), but I kept looking for an "emergency sieve." Just plain ugly.

FWIW, Bardreau was the only one on the Phantoms still hustling late in the 3rd. It didn't help.

Went to the NHL All-Star Skills competition today, which was preceded by an Old-Timers/Celebrity game. Joe Nieuwendyk played in it (since he was named one of the 100 best NHL'ers the night before), and had an assist on a goal (I think it was by Nicholas Lidstrom). It was fantastic to see Joe skate again, although it was a big strange seeing him in a uniform modeled after the LA Kings white away jersey.

See my post in the Sc Johnson $150 million gift thread for Ken Dryden's thoughts.
