How come it was College of St. Rose, not Clarkson, who challenged the NHL trademark application for Golden Knights? CSR doesn't even have a hockey team.

First, from the things that I've read, I don't think it was the College of St. Rose who issued a challenge, but rather the Patent & Trademark Office comparing to existing marks. Looking at the St. Rose logo (see below), the dominant element is the "Golden Knights" text. Clarkson's mark is dominated by the word "Clarkson" as seen here: [en.wikipedia.org] Not to mention that the St. Rose mascot is also looking straight ahead with a similar "V" shaped eye-slot. Clarkson's knight logo is less similar.

This article excerpts the USPTO document and explains the decision pretty well: [www.sbnation.com]

I think Clarkson should just sell their look to the Vegas team. They have the best unis in hockey, if not in all sports, and I'd love to see a green and gold team back in the N. Please, no more black or red.

Which ones? They completely change their jerseys every single season now.

This year, it looks like the home whites and road greens have the block letters with the number centered below, and there's a 3rd mustard-y jersey with script letters and the shoulder-numbers. No knight head on any of them, and squared-off yokes.

and the reason they didn't just go with Las Vegas Knights is that the London Knights have a very tight trademark on the use of Knights and were not willing to let the Vegas team use it.

And West Point kept them from using Black Knights.

Combining mens and womens:

These are beautiful.

These are very good.

These are solid.

These are... I dunno.

This is barely tolerable.

These are bad.

This is terrible.

Pretty much agree. I flip-flop my feelings about the name on the yoke (#1) but generally I approve and I'm glad the pointed yoke era (#5) ended. There was that one year in the late 90s when they tried to make their "gold" playoff jerseys actually be metallic in appearance and it just came out looking like a dull puke-color.

This is serious stuff in a country where copyrights trump performance.

Please don't say "trump performance".
