Harvard is the only ECAC team comfortably in; there are a lot of teams hanging around the cut-line. U, Q and CU currently sitting at 14 15 16 with SLU tied for 17.

which is why OC games really matter..

harvard doing well the beanpot matters..

cornell not screwing up the florida tourney this year matters.

cornell might 2 more shots a merrimack now to to flip that PWR. strange we could play them in florida and then the following week too.

16 in PWR means we miss by one again..

Cornell works its way further up into the Also Getting Votes segment. Cornell women are 3 votes out of 10th place. [www.uscho.com]

Look who's #3 in men's ranking. One more team Harkness, Bertrand et al didn't have to contend with.

Paul Patton had to put up with a Pennsylvania team. I think the first team Cornell played in Lynah Rink was against a team from Pennsylvania - Scranton, maybe. Roger Eastman was the Captain of the Cornell Hockey Team.

21st in both USCHO and USA Hockey polls.

If you consider 1 vote being "in the polls".:-D

At some point I wondered if there were any voters who just put in rankings according to straight RPI/PWR. The answer is one, at most, for USA/USA.

Be careful, 2016 only brings on 2017, and it could be worse.

I'll post it all later, but we're 19 in USCHO poll. That gives 5 ECAC teams. But we need to move up before we'll be back in the bracketology talk this week.

Yikes.

On Friday night, that 82-game unbeaten streak when leading after two—a stretch that lasted three-and-a-half years—came to a stunning end in Ralph Engelstad Arena.

Miami scored five consecutive goals in the third period to rally from a two-goal deficit and beat UND 6-3 in front of 11,728 shocked fans.

With the win we're at 12
? PWR CHN has us at 14.

Briefly 12. Back to 14 after OSU, Penn State, and Harvard games went final I think.

And up to 13 at 11:25pm.
I think that's because this happened.

I don't think it was. I looked at the PWR before the Miami game ended and we were already 13. At least I think I did.

What I don't get though is why SLU dropped so much when they got a win, too. I suppose that was the Miami effect.

Agreed. I didn't see any Cornell movement after Miami win.

A look at our NC opponents' recent form (last 5 games not against Cornell) and PWR:
WWWWL 21 Miami (x2)
WLWWT 31 UNH
WTWLL 34 CC
LLWLW 38 Merrimack (x2)
LLWTT 59 NMU

11 right now, a whisker ahead of Vermont. I think we flip the SLU comp with a win. So let's win.

Still interesting: with Quinnipiac falling to #24 after their loss to us, Cornell has still yet to register any Quality Win Bonus. The only other team in the top 40 without a Quality Win is UNH (31).

Up four spots to #15 in the 1/16/17 USCHO poll. ECAC teams sit at 6, 9, 15, 16, 17.

Gotta admire Guy Gadowsky's work -- in four years he's taken a relatively new program to the top spot as of this week.

This is a graphical representation of all of Cornell's results.

Are you sure you're using a consistent numbering system for the seasons? Shouldn't this be "2017"?

Bringing it up because 2002-03 was a much better year than 03-04!

Also, according to this, since 2010, 27 points in-conference was enough to guarantee a first-round bye, and >7 games above .500 overall was enough to guarantee an at-large bid. A 7-6 finish in the ECAC would get us to 27 points and a .500 finish (incl. ECAC tournament) would keep us at 7 games over .500. However, the ECAC is very top-heavy this year and the latter statistic doesn't really reflect the effect of ties on the PWR.

Here's the link to pts by seed. We'd need 27 points post-2010 (the 5th place team in 2015 had 26).

As you point out, the NC$$ is a different breed of cat.

Merrimack beat BU tonight 3-1. No change for us in Pairwise (I believe we were 11th, right?)

We were not; we were 12th. So that's a change.

That is why even scheduling weak teams in strong conferences can be a good thing.

Last night's OSU-UW result edges us up to 10th entering Fish-n-Fowl. Our opponent is at 13. We're 0.0011 away from 8th.

Let's win.

With the goddamn loss (goddammit), we're at 15, but .0001 behind Providence, and ahead of a 12-12-1 St. Cloud. The back-end of a rivalry weekend is more important now. Basically, everyone in the 2nd tier is very tight.

Perhaps it would have been better posting this here rather than in Bracketology thread:

>For those far more familiar with pairwise than me... would it be better for Harvard or Northeastern to win tonight for improving or maintaining CU's #13 pairwise ranking?

Perhaps it would have been better posting this here rather than in Bracketology thread:

>For those far more familiar with pairwise than me... would it be better for Harvard or Northeastern to win tonight for improving or maintaining CU's #13 pairwise ranking?

Presumably Harvard. It's possible Northeastern factors in somehow, but roughly speaking the pairwise is just RPI these days, and RPI is a factor of your record, your opponents' record, and your opponents' opponents' record, give or take some slight factors.

And harvard is not just an opponent, but they are a very frequent opponents opponent. So Harvard win bumps up the RPI of every ECAC team

I don't understand why the Also aren't "ranked." Seems clear to me that SLU is 16th.

Yes, but then they wouldn't be publishing a 'Top 15' - some weeks it would be a Top 16, Top 22 etc. depending on how many got votes

I would, sometimes, choose major pain for Harvard in exchange for a wee bit of pain for Cornell. It's like buying a Rolex for a dollar. I like money but can't resist a great deal.

We have now completed the middle part of the schedule that was last year's Death March. In 2016 in games 9-15 we went 0-5-2. This year over the same span we went 4-2-1. A gain of 7 points in 7 games over the prior year's performance is very rare.

Also, we are now officially "warmer" in ECAC play than at any time since the end of 2012.

It is great that the team was able to bounce back from the Harvard / Dartmouth weekend. But I can't help looking at the 4-2-1 record, and thinking how easily it could have been 7-0. (And yes, I watched last weekend's games, and know that it also could easily have been 2-4-1.)

Great results for Cornell tonight in ECAC play.

Princeton over St. Lawrence 3-1.
Harvard over Union 6-2.
Clarkson over Quinnipiac 4-2.
Dartmouth over RPI 2-1, but I don't think that one matters much.

I'm not so sure H winning is good for us, but Q and StL losing is definitely good news.

Rare is right. Apparently that's their first win in Chestnut Hill in approximately 20 years.
