Just got word from Coach Schafer that Topher Scott "has decided to leave the coaching profession for the time being." Most of the rest of the message:
Toph has been a great asset to our staff, Cornell and the town of Ithaca. We will miss him a lot. He is tireless worker, who did a tremendous job on the road recruiting, player development and constantly challenging our players, coaches and others around him to be better. You can personally thank Topher by sending him an email at topher.scott26@gmail.com.... We will begin immediately looking for a replacement for him.

In Part II of the post, we learn of what he's planning to do. The "father" part of being a good husband and father suggests you need to start salting away college tuition money. Plus orthodontia. And if the kid wants to skate, what will carbon fiber sticks cost a decade from now?

Bit surprised to see Topher back into coaching so soon after leaving Cornell.

He did get a head job, though. I guess the Syracuse Jr. Stars 16U program is not labor intensive.ithacat

16U AAA midget hockey is 2-3 practices a week and 50-100 games, depending on the lunacy level of the coach/program. Virtually all 16U coaches have another job that pays the bills.

The 30 games are just league games probably. The U16 Syracuse Stars AAA midget team played 60 games last year. http://www.myhockeyrankings.com/rank.php?y=2015&a=4&v=117

They played 5 games this weekend at the Roc City Showdown. Their USPHL 28 game regular season begins this weekend in Rochester, for whom an Ithacan named Matteas Derraugh plays.
Curious how his teams will try to play. Thought this tweet was interesting...
1st U16 games this wknd w/ @SyracuseStars. Had a blast! But all teams played against dumped puck all game. Sad. Zero development. #CmonMan
