I have no actual memory of the fight song. (I'm sure I'd recognize it if I heard it.) However, the RPI alma mater has one of the best "this can only be an alma mater" tunes I've ever heard.

For me, it's memorable because it is reminiscent of "I've been working on the Railroad," and I'd love to know if that was intentional.

It doesn't sound like that to me, but it was written in 1934 and the nickname Engineers was introduced about 1960, so it wouldn't fit chronologically anyway.

From that first link above, the name "Engineers" started being used as a nickname in 1921.

The words "The college of our heart" are set to the same note intervals as "all the live-long day."
and "we'll always strive to be" similarly sounds just like "Rise up so early in the morn'"

Once those are established in my head, the two songs have a similar structure. I had never heard the "tramp tramp tramp" bridge part, but it's the same length and has as much repetitiveness as the "Dinah won't you blow" bit.

It sounds like a generic football fight song in the background of a '40s newsreel. Which sounds like a knock, but it's way better than stealing a bad tin pan alley tune,

Agreed! That's a great alma mater. Close to Wisco's; although, Wisco's tune is stolen from Gounod.

Marty's right. At the Field House, the fans clap but don't sing.

I propose renaming it "Our Fight Song Has No Words". Same melody. Actual words:

Our fight song has no words, it's just a peppy song.
Our fight song has no words, so we just clap along-
We'd love some fight song words, but that will never be-
'Cuz all the local verbal skills are in Schenectady!

Ah, OK.

Well, combining the two, I noticed that while the kids were singing, whomever it is producing the feed recognized the fact that it was a little hard to hear them, and actually pumped up the volume a bit.

It's really amazing how much better the free, produced-by-students RPI feed is, as compared to the feeds we pay for from ILDN and the other pay services.

Well I hope this game put to rest all the talk about Schafer can't change and he must go. I know we haven't heard anything from the boo birds lately, but I was just worried that all we needed was to lose a few games and they'd be out.

That had to be one of the best games that we've played in years. Yes, some of our shots were not placed well, but Kasdorf took care of rebounds as well. Early on at the game, we were saying he was holding on to everything, not even dropping it for his teammates when he could. Maybe that was a strategy.

So what about some of you who have seen RPI play this year. How does this compare to other games? RPI had some good chances, just not many of them. But obviously they couldn't control thr puck at either end of the ice. Were we just so much better than the other teams, or was RPI just playing way below their level?

If you remove the shots during power plays the total was 39-12.

The other factor on the ice besides goaltending was D. RPI's defense was in position on most of the plays and their team in general seems much more of a physically trained, bulked up squad than in the past. They pushed some of our guys off the puck several times last night. That didn't happen four years ago.

And I also think we didn't have any luck last night when Kasdorf let out a rebound. He didn't leave many but what there was didn't bounced to us.

On a side note, I just realized that this Android keyboard learned Kasdorf's name. Almost as impressive as RPItv.org . On the other hand, I just hand to edit four swype typos.

control the controllables.. shoot 40+ times on goal and allow only 1 and you will have a really good record.

split this weekend and then come home for the emotional harvard weekend.

I did think we were getting pushed around a little more than usual, but yeah, we played a very good game.

Can't win 'em all. And we've had a sufficient number of wins in close games this year that we were sort of owed a loss, to butcher probabilities a little.

My usual caveat is that this is Houston Field House, historically notorious for inflating opponent shot totals. That said, it was clear Cornell was the stronger team. I saw a lot of great, creative things happening with the offense, even on 5x5s! Kasdorf definitely got the job done for RPI. And hey, other than the usual shoving around the crease, it was a pretty clean game between these two, imagine that. CU took a bad neutral zone penalty late in the 3rd, that was my only complaint. This isn't quite yet a team that can steamroll an opponent, but I'm starting to feel like the players are starting to believe that.

A tight, low-scoring game in which the winning team relies on great goal tending and strong defense, even though the losing team outshoots the winner by more than 2:1. That's Schafer's winning formula that we know and love!

Oh wait, Cornell was the losing team with over 40 SOG. Schafer must go!
