Merrimack has had a rough schedule the last month or so. Then again, I'm not sure how much of it is them or their opponents. Heading to Ithaca certainly doesn't help.

I should be lucky to visit Itacha someday soon so I can see the place where Cornell is 82-17-14 over the past seven years. Also, Cornell has a 82-17-14 home record over the past seven years.

Sounds as if the guy got fired from his job as a reporter and started this blog. The income must come from advertising, not Pulitzer Prizes.

Where do you get the idea that he was fired?
Here's the initial description about how the report got started.
The Mack Report was founded in 2006 by Eagle Tribune Merrimack writer Mike McMahon as a blog, then titled Warrior Rink Rat, to provide coverage of the Warriors’ Division I hockey program in conjunction with coverage provided in the newspaper.
Since then, it has evolved its own entity, and while still providing conjunction coverage with Mike’s work in The Eagle Tribune, is a standalone news source covering Merrimack College athletics and Hockey East.
And then there's this bio of Mike.
Mike McMahon – Managing Editor – Mike has been covering college hockey since the 2005-06 season, and has been covering Merrimack College for The Eagle Tribune since the 2006-07 season. Along with working for The Eagle Tribune, Mike is a senior writer at College Hockey News and has also covered the UFC for many print and online outlets.
The article had its journalistic problems, but let's not smear the guy.

I stand corrected.
I read the first paragraph you quote and mistakenly interpreted it as saying he went from being a reporter to writing a blog only. Had I taken the time to read on I would have learned he continues working as a reporter, as you point out.

It's break, but with 10 minutes to go the rink is less than 5% filled.

It's break so I am in Florida not Ithaca. Watching the broadcast, clearly the townies showed up in force. We never got a good look at the student side of the rink, however. Did it remain only 5% occupied?

Section B was full by the end of the game, and C was nearly so. D&E were 50-75%. A was empty: <10 band members showed,
As for the game, I was impressed with this team. They can actually pass and stickhandle! And they shoot from the point! Whoohoo!
I got a little nervous when Merrimack came out fast with a hard forecheck but eventually we figured it out. The latter part of the first we started to get some chances. Altho I was surprised Merrimack had only 8 shots in the period.
Second period was more wide open. Kubiak's goal was sweet. Some of the freshmen had some nice moves, too. And we had 13 SOG! Wow.
By the third period, we pretty much had them under control. While Merrimack had a lot of the possession in the 3rd, it was in their own zone. They seemed to skating backward a lot, and they got frustrated, They tried a lot of dump and chase, and we beat them to the puck. It burned the clock really well, although I would have liked just a little more attack in the 3rd.
Hopefully tomorrow is more of the same.

we ended up with zero shots in the 3rd. didnt feel like we were being dominated but i guess not of the shots got the goalie. it was pretty helter skelter though
merrimack is not very good.. most of their chances came on the power play or just really sloppy play by cornell.. several times we just lost the puck and causing our own grief.
the game really turned on them hitting the bar on apretty open shot and a couple nice saves since cornell never could really put home its own open shots in the first period. should have been a 2 goal lead after one instead of a 0-0 game

That early forecheck by Merrimack was very scary and effective. They lost pace on it later (or we figured it out) but they managed to keep it on the kill. It was similar to Union's aggressive forecheck from 2-3 years ago. I found myself wishing Mike would try to apply it -- I think we have good personnel for it, and it really forces a lot of opportunities and is exhausting for the opposing defense.

What I noticed was we kept more men back for the clear and passed it along the end boards away from the forechecker.

I looked at the scoreboard after two, saw we had 24 SOG, and thought "That's more than we usually have in a whole game."
I'm still a little concerned about some of the inconsistency on D, but I'm thrilled with the offense.
