Boy is that score banner annoying.

Free video is nice, and the quality seems very good, but do the people that produce these actually ever watch them? If they did, they would not be using that score banner!

Cornell ties it up at 2 with about 2 minutes left in the second period. A power play goal by Buckles that came after a good minute of fruitless pressure and a disallowed Colgate line change after the 'gate goalie knocked the goal off its moorings. Colgate seemed to have the run of play for the part of the second period that I saw but the penalty (which occurred tucked in the corner out of camera range) sapped the momentum. Cornell carried the play for the last minute and change of the period.

Let's take this in the third, Red.

Solid third for the Red. Controlled play but didn't score. BUT Angello gets in alone down the right side and fires one five-hole (I think) from the circle 1:10 into OT for the 3-2 win.

I have to say, I continue to find Cornell's passing awkward-to-nonexistent. They seem to just fling the puck to open space, and not only when they are dumping into the offensive zone. Very frustrating to watch even when they win.

OK, when was the last time Cornell had a 4 point weekend in M-hockey AND won a football game?

They had some sweet passing breakout plays last night, and at least two tonight. I think that's much improved over last year. Getting shots on goal - that's still got a ways to go for anybody not named Angelo.

Not so long ago - in 2013. Fri Nov 22, Hockey beats Brown 5-1. Sat Nov 23, football pulls a major upset over Penn, 42-41 before Hockey beats Yale 2-1. Good times.

Seems like a lifetime ago. As the saying goes, "Time flies when you're having fun, but time drags when you're not."

I actually find their passing to be the best that I've seen in years. The problem tonight was the way 'gate played defense. They hardly put on a forecheck if we had the puck behind our net. They dropped back and clogged up center ice, forcing us to dump it in. Aside from the first period penalties, we controlled the play and we've got a lot of variety on our breakout. This team is "totally" different from the last few years. Here's hoping they can build on their successes.

During the PP in which Buckles eventually got the tying goal, I was thinking to myself how frustrating it is to play a team that has many good shot-blockers. (And that's usually us, BTW). Colgate was definitely on last night with their positional defense. Word is that Yale employs a left-wing lock now, so that adds another area of interest to Friday's upcoming game.

I also noticed three occasions where a Big Red forward tried a toe-drag move to get around the last defender, and I'm sure there were more that I missed. None of the three I saw worked completely, but there does seem to be a bit more puck-handling awareness than normal in the early going here.

Otherwise, thanks in part to my lowered expectations, I'm getting excited, though I'm trying to temper that. This has been a fun few weeks so far. Many tough tests up ahead.

Did you happen to notice whether those attempts were by players who had not had substantial (or any) playing time coming into this year?

I can't remember each one, but I'm fairly certain one was from a freshman with a double vowel for initials.

I'm actually much more encouraged. The frosh are really contributing, right out of the box. We don't have any brothers on the team, let alone twins. So given how young and inexperienced we are, it's going to take a bit of practice before they click together like the Fergusons.

Vanderlaan reminds me of Cam Abbott and Angello a bit like Joe Devin.
