I know, I know, there's probably nothing people want to think about less right now.

Anyway, here are the match-ups:

#10 Uni at #1 Qpc
#9 RPI at #2 SLU
#6 Hvd at #3 Yal
#5 Drt at #4 Cgt

And here are the ECAC's PWR:

12 Qpc
13 Yal
17 Hvd
18 Cgt
22 SLU
23 Drt
31 Uni
36 Cor *
43 Clk *
46 RPI
48 Brn *
56 Prn *

Here's my guess:

Q in 3 (I hope I am wrong here. I really hope Q loses.)
SLU in 2
Yale in 3
Drt in 3

Semi:

Q beats Drt
Yale beats SLU

Final:

Yale beats Q

I know CU didn't play well at all, but I think Union is now firing on all cylinders and knows how to win. I think Union has a good shot at making it to the championship game.

Quinnipiac makes the NCAAs regardless. They're the team most likely to do damage (not just dorm rooms) and make the frozen four. Nice to see Union get a chance to go back to the NCAAs as defending champ and if they win the ECACs, we can call the first round series "quality losses." Be nice to see St Lawrence get back for the first time since 2007.

It'll be weird seeing one of RPI/St. Lawrence at the championship weekend. Colgate should also be there, too, but that series will likely go to three games even though the hosts match up well with Dartmouth.

RPI/St Lawrence in Lake Placid will help attendance. Those 2, Cornell, and RPI would be about as good as you could do for attendance. Dartmouth is only 3:10 away, if their fan travels.

The Q/U winner should draw OK.

Union already up 2-0 at QU with the 2nd period about to start. That's the only game with goalscoring so far.

For those that want to see a bit of rough puck luck for Harvard click here and find the last minute of the game as fast as possible. Harvard hits the post and Yale then scores an empty net goal only a seconds later.

I've got the same sentiments. Any year where Gaudet and his corps are kept away from the final weekend is a good one.

Interesting stats from last nights games. All 4 winning teams were out-shot and the 2 venues with the fewest fans were the ones that swept.

again we complaing about lynah, but its all relative, compared to most everyplace that isnt a huge state school we are doing really well just to get people in the building.

Lynah is a much better experience for everyone--fans, players, potential recruits--when it's full and loud. Given that it has been full and loud many times before, it is not unreasonable to want it to be so today. I don't particularly care how bad other teams' rink experiences are.

Q wins 3-1 with interesting end. 2-1 and U got a marginal penalty according to U radio. Bennett all over refs and then U gets a PP, which the U radio called the worst call he's seen. U also pulled Stevens, but Q got ENG.

On to Harvard-Yale.

Yale's Killian just took a 5 minute major with ~ 5 mins left to go in first overtime.

Also, got game DQ, hitting from behind.

Adam Wodon tweeted that it wasn't even a penalty - just looked bad because of the way the Harvard player went down.

Killian's hit was somewhat reckless and very deliberate. The Harvard player could have gotten hurt badly if he hadn't dropped down. I would have given Killian at least 2 mins.

It looked worse in slow motion replay, but no way I could justify a DQ.

I was at the game, and it was a great game. Since I strongly dislike both teams, I wasn't pulling for one team or the other, but just wanted to see an exciting game, which it was. The 5-minute major in the first OT was a good call. I was sitting next to an NHL scout from Anaheim and we both thought the officials made the right call on it. The play took place right in front of us.
Harvard stormed out of the gate and played a great 10 minutes, resulting in their first goal. But by letting Yale score less than 30 seconds later, they let Yale right back in the game. I was surprised that Harvard tied it late in the third period, since they hadn't been playing with a great sense of urgency for most of the final period. Both teams had some great chances in OT, and both goalies played well, although Harvard's sieve gave up more rebounds and looked shaky at times.
Except for one point-blank chance in the first period, Vesey was a non-factor for much of the game. But his line started to dominate play in OT, and his GW-goal was just a goal-scorer's goal, with a knack for being in the right place at the right time, something we lacked at Cornell this year (and most years).
As for the atmosphere at the rink, the seats were approximately 3/4 full. There was no pep band for either school. The Yale student section would occasionally start a chant, but the townies, who made up most of the crowd, never picked up on it. And I did meet THE Harvard hockey fan, a season ticket holder who drove down from Mass. for the game. He admitted the Cornell game at Lynah East is the most exciting game of the year for them. He also admitted that Harvard doesn't have many hockey fans.
What a sucky weeekend for Yale, losing playoff games/series to Harvard in both basketball and hockey (not to mention their lacrosse team getting trounced by Cornell!).
My final thought on the game was the Cornell went 2-1-1 against Harvard and Yale this year, yet here they were playing, with one team moving on to Lake Placid, and our season was long over.
