The Women start their season with 2 games at BC so that will be an interesting test of what the team is made of.

Here's the complete preseason. 11/12 ECAC teams get votes in USCHO Men's Poll

It's hard to see that as much of an accomplishment when the poll includes 42 out of the 59 programs.

True, but for the prior 9 years (that's when they started ranking 20 teams) it's been 8, 7, 7, 7, 8, 10, 8, 7, & 9. That's an average of 7.9. So I think we may be more respected, and I'm happy.

Boy, that Red-White game was killer for the men; it dropped them three places. Fortunately, the women came out of it all right.

As for Princeton getting 17, maybe their own coach/AD/whoever voted them fourth.

Is anybody besides me surprised we're still getting any votes at all? We may have a few decent players and a solid goalie, but we can't score, and we haven't won any games. Somehow, more coaches think we're worthy of votes than think Connecticut is, when UConn has beaten Quinnipiac and BC.

Casey: They're gonna cut Santori.
Natalie: The place kicker?
Casey: He's made eight field goal attempts in three games and has connected on a grand total of none of them.
Elliot: Oh, I've met him, he's a good guy.
Casey: He can't kick.
Natalie: He is a good guy.
Casey: He can't kick.
Natalie: He'll get picked up by another team.
Casey: No, he won't, you know why?
Elliot: Why?
Casey: Because he can't kick.
Dana: All right! Commercial one, then onto the dugout report.
Elliot: I saw him kick in practice.
Casey: At this level they pretty much want you to be able to kick in a game.

Autopilot voting. It surprised me too but then I remembered it was a poll in November and that's when I stopped caring enough to even post about it. But if *you're* posting... yeah, I had the same thought.

As we all should know, polls in November are more about expectations than results. Cornell is expected to be good this year because, well, we usually are. So we continue to get votes until we prove otherwise.

For that matter, it's not really unreasonable to expect that a team with the best goals against in the country will be able to find enough offense to be a good team over the course of the season. Whether I would vote for Cornell at this point (I wouldn't), it's far from clear that we won't be able to have a bubble worthy season come March, which is what a 15 vote equates too.

I'm also surprised.

I guess we're only at .500, but we started the season ranked, and it's odd to see any benefit of the doubt from that vanish and then not return.

The bottom 3 teams on the list were all over .500 so I think we need to win a few more games before we climb out of the primordial ooze.

Voting tends to have a lag effect. So I'm not surprised that we wouldn't be climbing yet. The pre-season ranking effect went away as soon as we dropped out after a slow start. It'll take a nice run to get votes again. Or a solid PWR ranking in February.

Being outside Others Receiving means at least a 7-place discrepancy between PWR and the Poll. But then there's this.

Our favorite Quinnipiac coach is lobbying for Harvard to be ranked No. 1.

I love the USA Poll. Last week we were 10 and SLU was an other. So we beat them twice and somehow the voters move them to 10 and we're an other. screwy And since SLU got 22 points, with only 19 voters, some voter(s) had to put them higher than 10. Maybe if we win it all next weekend, we won't even be listed.nut
