Riley Nash will unfortunately not make it into the Hurricanes' opening night lineup, as he has been sent down to Charlotte to make room for the previously-injured, Chad Larose.

Colin Greening got 10:36 of ice time in the Sens season-opening 5-3 loss to Detroit last night. He also saw time on both the powerplay and the PK, and had 3 shots, but was a -2 on the night.

That was actually 10:36 of even strength time, plus 1:29 PPT and 2:46 SHT for a total of 14:51 TOI.

To quote the Detroit TV announcers on the replay of Ottawa's 3rd goal "Greening Screening". Colin did an excellent job blocking goalie Howard so he couldn't see the puck shot from the point which found its way to the back of the net.

Other than Matt Moulson, Kent Manderville or Joe Nieuwendyk, I'm hard pressed to think of a Cornellian who regularly scores pretty goals.

Lance Nethery.

In the NHL, Manderville scored 37 goals in 12 years, and they were probably all grinders. Greening scores way over his rate. Even Chartrand and Bitz are over it.

But your point is well taken.

Colin Greening had 22+ minutes of ice time in a 7-1 loss to the Avalanche. Considering that Ottawa played terribly, his -1 for the night seems good given his ice time. Anyone who saw the game have a comment?

Evan Barlow and Mike Devin playing for Elmira Jackals opened the ECHL season against Patrick Kennedy and the Trenton Titans.

Evan had 3 goals and 3 assists, earning the number 1 star of the game.

Mike Devin had his first professional goal; Evan was even nice enough to collect the puck for him after the play.

Unfortunately, Patrick was -2 on the evening and didn't dress for the next game, where Mike Devin was in his first professional fight.

And one of Barlow's goals was assisted by Craig Rivet, former captain of the Buffalo Sabres and a veteran of over 900 NHL games, who has apparently swallowed his pride and signed with the Jackals.

Greening was rather invisible in last night's Sens-Flyers game. For I while I wondered if he'd been scratched. He finally got a few mentions in the 3rd period and some complimentary remarks from the Flyers announcers, but by then then game was well out of hand.

Just saw that thanks to Twitter!

Someone commented on Twitter the other night that between injuries and iffy performances from Toronto's goaltending crew, they wouldn't be surprised to see Ben called up again soon. If Jonas looks shaky, maybe he'll even get some time in the net.

I happened to hear the description of the fight on the Devils' radio cast. The announcers commented that while Murray was known for his tough defensive play, he was not known as fighter -- which was a surprising (and apparently uninformed) comment.

The announcers for the Colorado Avalanche are going to have to watch their 3's, 5's and OB's this season.

Ryan O'Byrne #3 is playing defense tonight along with teammate Shane O'Brien #5. They play the same side and on the Avs jerseys, 3's look a bit like 5's and they are both similar in size.

There is also a Ryan O'Reilly on the roster, but he's a forward and has 2 numbers on his jersey. I don't envy the Colorado announcers this season.

Colin Greening scored a nice goal last night, picking up the puck in the slot and fighting off a hook to rip a wrist shot past Florida's goalie and tie the game at 3. Ottawa went on to win 4-3.

Going through the rosters, the only familiar name I see is "Andrew Dickson," playing for Belfast. But he's 17 years younger than the Colgate forward, and a goalie.

Common name, maybe, but... weirdly, the Colgate player did play in the English league 12 years ago. Still, it does not appear to be a relation.

Let's hope he marries someone named, say, Ann White. And they send their first-born son to play hockey at Cornell.

Actually, Colin's goal with 2:07 left put Ottawa up 3-2. The Panthers scored 47 seconds later to tie it, and then with less than 5 sec left, Michalek scores the game winner for the Sens.

Greening with an assist (I guess for having the puck inadvertently deflect off of him on a rebound) on the Sens' 4th, and game-tying goal, late in the 3rd period. He's done well to cause traffic in front of the net this game.

Colin Greening with an "atypical" PPG for him. He gets a pass at the Maple Leaf blue line and skates in alone and drills a shot into the upper right hand corner. Tied at 1, near the end of the 1st period.

Watched the Rangers game yesterday afternoon. Greening looks great positioned in front of the net and seems to be putting home a few pucks as well. With a scarcity of effective power forwards in the league right now, he's going to be a real asset for the Sens.
