Attending the 2011 Cornell-BU hockey game?

No sooner did Marty from Section 7 at RPI say, "I now proclaim the unofficial beginning of the off season" [elf.elynah.com] than 2011 is just around the corner. Cornell announces first crack at Cornell-BU tickets for Thanksgiving Saturday (11/26/11 8 pm) at Madison Square Garden go on sale Monday at 10 a.m. with general sales starting a day later. This would be the third of a 3X, every-odd-year at MSG meet-up between Cornell and the team that inspired our 2010-11 jersey sleeves. $17 for students, $29-$109 for others: [cornellbigredtickets.universitytickets.com]

Uncle Ezra
Red Hot Hockey tickets can be ordered online and in-person at the Cornell Athletic Ticket Office (103 Bartels Hall) beginning Monday, April 11 at 10:00am. Fans ordering tickets will be allocated "best seats available" with first-come, first-served per price level. Best tickets in each level are considered closest to the glass and center ice. Please note: with the exception of Cornell student tickets, orders are being accepted but tickets WILL NOT be available for distribution until mid-June. Tickets for CU students WILL be available at the ticket office on April 11. Allocation of seats WILL be made based on pre-orders, so the earlier your order is placed the better your seat location. If you have special requests for tickets (e.g. behind either cage, nearest the band, etc.), please contact the Athletic Ticket Office by phone at 607-254-BEAR (2327). For group orders of 20+ tickets, please order by phone by calling the Cornell Athletic Ticket Office.

My experience has been that tickets are available into November. Others may recall differently. But the same $29 or $45 buys you way better seats now.

I thought it was interesting that when I called to order tickets the CU ticket office told me they couldn't issue actual seats because of the MSG renovation this summer. The guy I spoke with said they're waiting until after the renovation to do the seat assignments. However, BU fans I've talked to already have their seating assignments. Has anyone heard differently?

Anyway, munchkin and myself +9 will be somewhere in the cheap seats :)

Cornell was the away team in 2007, the home team in 2009 (photo), and should be the visiting team again this year.

[clear]

No surprise if BU fans already have assignable seats. They get one section set aside and have room left over for Cornell overflow. The Cornell-BU fan ratio is 2-1 or greater. I just bought my Cornell block of ten and assume the credit card will be charged somewhat sooner than the tickets arrive. I can't recall if the red X at lower right was for the national anthem singer or an ROTC parachute drop.

I would assume our cards will be charged immediately, while tickets were promised in the mail sometime in June. I'm not exactly surprised or offended at this; it's pretty standard for any large event for which you buy advance tickets. At least it's not like the NCAA tournament lotteries, where your card gets charged, and then months later, they decide whether or not you're getting tickets.

I'm set for RHH3 +11.

Some languages, it's intonation whether the same word means chicken feather or so's-your-mother. Here this is a different "probably" than "your car will probably be ready today."

I bought my student tickets this morning and recieved the actual tickets along with seat assignments.

Section 330 and 329 are Cornell student sections this year, so expect that end to be CU.

Does anyone have thoughts on whether it's worthwhile to spring the extra $27/ticket to get the lower-level premium seats instead of the mid-level ones? MSG's seating chart shows views, and the view from Section 76 does not seem that much better than the view from Section 121. Sections 330 and 329 are in the upper left corner (on the MSG chart), so I'd assume the Cornell ticket office is selling lower-tier seats that are also in this quadrant. But I'd rather be at mid-ice, and the lower-level premium seats have more of these. (But is Cornell selling such center-ice seats?)

I don't think either game was televised and I wouldn't expect this one to be, either. If you're lucky there will be streaming video.

Wait 'til November 15 and your $29 tickets put you high enough and so far back in the upper deck you can reach up and touch the underside of the roof. Were you in a plane, they'd allow you to bring out your laptops and iPods.

I would say spring for the extra 27 bucks. If you look at the seating chart, if you buy the lower level seats you can still wind up goalward of the blue line. Buying the VIP seats assures you a seat close to center ice.

For the last game, many CU sections were reserved for sale by the various Class of 'xx groups and regional alumni clubs. So even if you wait, there's still a shot at getting good seats.

Just received a message back from Gene in response to a message I had left. Cornell hasn't received the mid-level tickets yet. MSG is doing some reconstruction of those sections and has held off on distributing those tickets. Once the Cornell ticket office gets them, they'll send them along, but they don't know when that will be.

Back in 2009, the (Hilton New York? I think) had some group rate deal for that weekend for Red Hot Hockey attendees, unless I'm completely mistaken. Any idea if there's anything similar for this year? Hotels in Manhattan are, uh, pricey.

Friends have said they've gotten pretty good rates at a La Quints located in midtown and I've seen OK rates at the Hampton Inns in Chelsea and SoHo. No idea what rates will be like for the hockey weekend.

As of yesterday the Cornell Club still had tickets in their block.

And just now there appear to be plenty in the BU section available on Ticketmaster. Based on 2 years ago, there are plenty of Cornell fans in the BU sections.

Know how we always talk about, "Well, what is there to do in Albany [Atlantic City] Saturday afternoon before the ECAC title game?" Not that amusing yourself in NYC is hard but if you need an option before Cornell-BU: Matt Moulson and the Islanders play in Newark at the Prudential Center Saturday 11/26 at 1 p.m. Game ends 4 pm, you walk 10 minutes to New Jersey Transit railroad (Newark Penn Station) and from there it's 15-20 minutes into Penn Station and the Garden and dinner on your own or one of the Cornell-sponsored pre-game parties. The Devils often have a college student discount game during Thanksgiving week; I don't know if this is it but I have seen Cub Scout/Boy Scout and church group offers for the game, $40 mezzanine/balcony for $61 seats.

Wait, never mind: According to [devils.nhl.com] the college student night Thanksgiving week is the Wednesday night game. Another is Friday 10/21 7pm when the San Jose Sharks (Douglas Murray) are in town. $35 tickets.

OK, so Cornell is out of 400 level seats and Ticketmaster/MSG's best available suck ("Limited View";). Anyone know who to call at BU? The Agannis Arena number says to contact ticketmaster. Looks like I'm f'd unless someone has an extra pair in the 400s?

Maybe?

I assume you tried putting in "BU section" on ticketmaster/MSG. A few weeks ago when I was trying they had more/better seats if you selected that than the Cornell section.
