Stupid RPI Tricks

select RPI (PWR and KRACH don't work yet), and play with the list of games played. Comment out our win over Princeton on 20021109 and we go from #3 to #2 in the RPI. Comment out our win over Rensselaer on 20030118 as well, and we move to #1. In other words, if we hadn't played those games rather than playing them and winning them, we'd have the best RPI in the nation. Perhaps we should consider forfeiting to the Engineers and Tigers the next time around. (Since forfeits don't count towards tournament selection.)

Nifty interface. Minor comments:

1) While you can change scores and recalculate RPI based on those changed scores, the "Specify results" radio button doesn't work.
2) It won't calculate PWR.
3) If we had beaten Maine, we would be #1 in RPI.
4) If RPI were still 35-50-15 we would be #2 in RPI, Brown and Quinnipiac would be TUCs, and Mass-Lowell would not.

Oh, and 5), if you make the PWR calculations work, I'm definitely not getting much done this afternoon.

Oh, and also 6), if we had beaten Dartmouth at Dartmouth, we would also be #1 in RPI.'

Oops, one more edit to add 7), duh. Changing any single loss to a win affects our WinPct far more than it it affects anyone else's OPct or OOPct. Never mind.

This, by the way, is why I have been secretly thinking that we will get an E/NE #1 if we win out. I don't think the committee will punish us for winning the weak part of the schedule after seeing our success against the strong part of the schedule. (Yes, I know that the rules are supposed to be fixed, but they did give themselves wiggle room.)

I was looking at the mathematics of the Cornell/BC comparison in response to a question on USCHO yesterday. In short, what I found is that regardless of whether BC passes us in RPI, a lot of other things would have to happen in order for them to flip COP or TUC and carry the comparison. This is also the case for UNH. Because of our head-to-head wins, BU would have to pull off all kinds of miracles to win our comparison. In short, what I'm saying is, while UND and UMN could flip the comparisons because they have COP on us already and could possibly flip RPI, if, HYPOTHETICALLY SPEAKING, we were to win out, I don't think it'd require much wiggle room for the selection committee to consider us #2 in the ease (that is, #1 E or NE) after Maine (who, owing to the H2H loss, we aren't likely to pass unless we flip RPI).

Actually, it's impossible for us to win the PWC with Maine unless we pass them in RPI. With RPI and one H2H win they'd have two of the four criteria plus the tiebreaker.

Oops, I phrased that wrong. What you said is more or less what I meant.
