With respect to interconference games, we know that Cornell will play a pair at Colorado College, face Boston University at Madison Square Garden, and play two games in the Florida College Classic. Does anybody know which teams are coming to Estero in December?

Bump.

Better start saving for that flight from SYR to COS! Colorado Springs is about 400 mi further from Ithaca than Estero. Maybe we'll get CC for the 1/6-1/7 weekend.

Also, looks like the Harvard game will be at the end rush week, which is the same weekend that we had the Colgate series in January. It was not well attended this year.

Yeah we just need to not have home games on rush weekend.

I just did some *very* preliminary searching on Kayak and was surprised to see that flights to Colorado Springs (from NYC, in any case) cost pretty much the same as flights to Denver, in the ballpark of $350 RT. However, the flights to COS all have layovers whereas direct flights to Denver are easy to find.

From Syracuse, on the other hand, you have to have a layover either way, and flights to Colorado Springs (~$370) actually appear to be less expensive than those to Denver (~$440).

With the changes that are being implemented to Greek Life, I won't be surprised if rush is going to be a lot more boring in the next few years. Maybe that's good for hockey? rolleyes

Hopefully. Still if you want to make Hockey competitive in a free market, you should make ticket prices less than frat dues.

According to [www.withoutapeer.com] , CC is at RPI on Oct. 28-29, which means we won't open at CC. That basically leaves either the weekend of Jan. 6-7 or Jan. 27-28 as possibilities, and one of those will likely be the home and home with Colgate.

Even then you'd need the equivalent of "little sister" hockey fans for parity.

This is great news, since playing a CC team with 6 games under its belt in our opening weekend would be double plus ungood.

Value is entirely subjective. Some people like bundling: getting 30 friends all at once for a low, low price is the college equivalent of buying stuff at Sam's Club. Who am I to say their choices are wrong? :-)

In 2005-06, the last year that Christmas Day fell on a Sunday (as it does in 2011), they held the tournament on Tuesday 12/27 and Wednesday 12/28; that seems like as good a guess of when the tournament will be held next season as any, until the dates are officially announced anyway.

As for the matchups... meh. Nothing against Clarkson and BC, just would prefer to be able to pull in a couple of Western teams rather than another ECAC team and another HE team.

Just got this email from CU Athletics:

Athletics Ticket Office
Red Hot Hockey tickets can be ordered online and in-person at the Cornell Athletic Ticket Office (103 Bartels Hall) beginning Monday, April 11 at 10:00am. Fans ordering tickets will be allocated "best seats available" with first-come, first-served per price level. Best tickets in each level are considered closest to the glass and center ice. Please note: with the exception of Cornell student tickets, orders are being accepted but tickets WILL NOT be available for distribution until mid-June. Tickets for CU students WILL be available at the ticket office on April 11. Allocation of seats WILL be made based on pre-orders, so the earlier your order is placed the better your seat location. If you have special requests for tickets (e.g. behind either cage, nearest the band, etc.), please contact the Athletic Ticket Office by phone at 607-254-BEAR (2327). For group orders of 20+ tickets, please order by phone by calling the Cornell Athletic Ticket Office.
ALL OTHER ORDERS SHOULD BE PLACED ONLINE OR IN-PERSON!

Here are the prices according to the online order form:

VIP Lower Center $109
Lower Level Premium $72
Mid Level $45
Upper Level $29
Cornell Student Tickets $17

Not sure which sections yet, probably similar to last year.

Get to the Men's Hockey page, and on the lower right hand side is an events schedule. Click through the months until October, 2011 and you will begin to find all their 2011-12 home games highlighted. Click on a highlighted date for game info. Click through to January 2012 and click on the 6th and 7th, and you will find the Cornell games listed.

Here is the full schedule, just announced. Tasty.

Now, what is the University of Guelph?

Also, from the announcement:
cornellbigred.com
The season schedule also includes the Florida College Classic for the 12th straight season, to be held on Dec. 29 and 30, at Germain Arena in Estero, Fla. This year's field includes Clarkson, Maine and Massachusetts, with the Big Red set to battle the Minutemen in the second game on the opening night of the tournament. The Big Red would then face either Clarkson or Maine in the consolation game the second night.
They're really confident about our chances.

Traditional Canadian college scrimmage. Cornell last saw Guelph in 1998: [db.eLynah.com]

Much nicer opening schedule. Two weeks of teams to get ready, followed by two weeks of Ivy. And my only conflict is with the Red-White game.

Would it be worthwhile if every year the ECAC made sure that Ivies played only other Ivies for the first two weeks of in-conference games? Just curious.

Difficult with the current traveling partnerships.

What if the current pairs don't change and Ivies just have to play one of the non-Ivies teams like Quinnipiac and Colgate during week 1 or 2? That's still better than facing RPI and Union right?

I've read this 5 times, and I still don't understand what you're suggesting.

Ben

They've now fixed that slip.

The Big Red would then face either Clarkson or Maine in either the championship or the consolation game the second night.

I believe that Andy is suggesting that Ivy schools only play travel partners with at least one Ivy school for the first two weeks (Colgate is paired with Cornell and Quinnipiac is paired with Princeton, hence the reference to those schools), thereby mitigating the risk of playing pairs such as RPI/Union and Clarkson/SLU who will have played more games at the time. I'm not endorsing the idea, or even suggesting it's feasible with the current ECAC structure, just explaining. It's not a bad idea though...

Ah, I think I get it now...thanks.

I'd like to think the league schedulers would be open to such an arrangement, considering they already bend over backwards and inconvenience other teams to accommodate one (and only one) member so that squad can compete in attend the Beanpot "well rested."

To me, it seems like there have been a lot of years where we've opened up the ECAC slate with a Harvard weekend anyway. I remember thinking how that's a way to hit the Lynah Faithful before they can brush up on their routines as well as get the Freshmen acclimated to all the cheers. This schedule has the home Harvard game just as everyone is coming back fresh from Winter Break.

Thanks Mitch. I apologize for not explaining it clearly. Also, I'm not endorsing it either, I'm just curious why it hasn't been done.

The game at Ohio State that LeNeveu stole for us at the start of 2002-03 was one of the best performances I've ever seen by a Cornell goalie. That being said, I completely agree that it's much nicer to ramp up the way the 2011-12 schedule does.

Amazing: Union opens Oct. 8. Cornell's football team has barely begun to play.

Release also has this minor piece of trivia: The RS runs late Oct to end of Feb, but there are only 4 weekends when all 12 ECAC teams play each other: November 4-5, November 11-12, February 17-18, and February 24-25.
