Sounds mostly like a pipe dream but an effort to bring hockey back at Penn: [www.thedp.com]

Gotta bring Columbia back, too. But you'll never get Matt Guitar Murphy or Mr. Fabulous out of those high-paying gigs.

Penn hockey went varsity circa 1965, the Class of '23 kicked in $3M in 1968 to fund a rink, Class of '23 Rink opened circa 1971, Penn hockey peaked 1972-73 (beat defending NCAA champion BU), then slipped badly, and was gone after 1977-78. The Class of '23 must have been mightily annoyed to have created the largest class donation in Penn history and see the donation's purpose gone within a decade. With hockey played all over the US now, Penn's location isn't such a detriment.
The cost to bring hockey back is the cost of not just the current year's operating budget but an endowment so the team doesn't turn to Penn for money 3 or 4 years down the road. Times two because donors will be funding men's and women's hockey both. Be nice if it happens. It also means if a Quinnipiac were to jump to Hockey East, there'd be a ready-made 12th team for the ECAC. Also means there'd be two nearby teams in case the ECAC tournament ever - gag - returns to Atlantic City. The only good thing about AC IIRC was in year 1 or 2, the first day was unseasonably warm and you could sit on the beach before the game if you drove down way early.

Please do not mention the Gonorrhea Gomorrah in connection with college hockey. We're back in Placid. Short of:
1. moving back to Albany or
2. stealing BU and BC back from HE and moving back to Boston
there is no better location. I mean except Lynah.

But we're on a mission from God.
