if you have access to ESPN insider this is an interesting take on shots taken at goalies and save percentage.. Its NHL numbers so not sure how it goes to college play but still.
the gist is there are 2 kinds of shots red and green, green being the quality chances
[insider.espn.go.com]
a couple takes. This suggests shots just to take shots is a bad thing. Rebounds only occure 7.5% of the time on red shots and goals 1 out of every 25 rebounds. 1 goal out of every red 42 shots taken
that would seem to equate well to cornell cause that feels like all the shots we ever get.
he also talks about passing and controlling the puck across a line up the middle of the ice extending from the goalie out.. shots done after doing that are green shots and 75% of the goals come from those types of plays. a goal every 3.5 shots..
thats a staggering number to me.. I wonder if we create any of those types of plays?
Also some thoughts on puck possession on the power play and passing means nothing if its not the right kind..
