All ECAC games are final. Yale-Colgate does not have standings consequences.

According to John's PP script:

01 Yale
02 Cornell
03 Princeton
04 SLU
-------
05 Harvard
06 Dartmouth
07 Quinnipiac
08 Union
-------
09 Clarkson
10 Colgate
11 RPI
12 Brown

So, at this rate, would we rather play Q or Colgate?

First round match-ups:

Brown at Harvard
RPI at Dartmouth
Colgate at Quinnipiac
Clarkson at Union

Jason gave others pairings, but I'm pretty sure he got something wrong.

Quoting myself, since I'm narcissistic:

And, if the first round games hold form, each quarterfinal features the higher-seeded team vs. what could be considered a "nightmare" opponent... except for us.

Harvard took three of four points against SLU, Dartmouth beat Princeton twice(, we took 3 points against Quinnipiac), and both Union and Clarkson took 2 points from Yale this year.

Sounds great to me.

So, at this rate, would we rather play Q or Colgate?

Or Union or RPI or Clarkson? It's not a pure bracket. They'll play the second worst remaining seed. No better than 7, no worse than 11.

It has to happen eventually.... right? Maybe Clarkson will be forced to forfeit because of their drummers. :-P

Union won tonight 2-1 against clarkson to get the home ice advantage. It's not that unlikely.

Yeah but that was without their postseason kryptonite.

Well, considering how we played the last part of the season, this is the best possible outcome. Second is definitely better than third. We get a low seed and if there are a couple of upsets, even better. I also like being the home team in the semis, if we get there. Match ups can be important. I'd hope if we get to the ECAC finals we'd get an NCAA bid, win or lose.

My hope at the beginning of the season was to be in the finals and get a bid. Then hope we can win one NCAA game and at worst build on that for next year. I'd then hope Riley would stay for his brother's senior year and a chance to get to the Frozen Four.

A year ago they failed to get a bye. This year they finished 2nd, their best RS in 4 years. They have 2 weeks to get healthy, and if they can win their QF series they'll go into Albany with 20 wins.

Does anyone feel a sting of familiarity? Cornell in 2nd, Clarkson @ Union. One upset sends Clarkson to Lynah, etc etc...

Clarkson has the chance to make history. Come on, Knights, go for it -- become the first team to lose a playoff series to Union!

I think things turned out pretty well for us considering. But for us to get off the nc$$ "bubble" I think we have to make it to the finals of the ECAC. If were to lose in the semis I think we might have trouble getting in. Two seed if we win it or three seed if we're runner-up.

Posting a little late, but what a fantastic end to the game. When was the last time we came back from 2 down in the third?

Props to the band for playing Schafer outside the rink in order to let Brown have their senior night in peace. Also for being the only band in the rink that didn't sound like a funeral march every time they played.

Finally, what's with the playoff series falling on the first weekend of spring break?? I took vacation and planned to go for the game (and I am) but everyone's gonna be gone.... :-(

Don't the quarters typically fall on the first week of break? At least that's how it was when I was on East Hill.

Playoffs are determined by when the NCAAs begin. Come on, You're sounding like CU did this to you. They have no control. Also, spring break varies for different schools. Don't you remember when the Harvard band left after their team won the semis because they were starting their break and couldn't stay for the finals.thud

Can you really count Union as a favorite in the playoffs? Ever? Come on. But honestly, I thought it was pretty obvious that I meant one OTHER upset, even if you do count U as a favorite.

Hey, count me as one who would much rather we play a Wong-less Quinnipiac or typically-toothless Union than a healthy Clarkson.

PS I just wanted to type "Wong-less."

For the last four years, at least, the playoffs have not fallen on the first weekend of break. Usually ECAC's are that weekend.

You may be surprised to take a look at last year's calendar, then. The quarterfinals were played at Union on the 14th and 15th of March, while spring break technically started on Saturday, the 15th of March (and of course we all know that it started a bit earlier in many student's minds.)

[cornellbigred.com]

I'm certain there will be plenty of students still in the stands for the quarterfinals.

Well, strictly speaking Cornell did do this. The administration should have the sense to plan the academic calendar around hockey. :-D

Playoffs were the first weekend of spring break in 2003, and ECACs were at the end. That was a pretty good year :-D
