It is becoming more and more obvious that this is a very special team -- the kind that comes along at most once every decade (or if you are Ned Harkness, every other year...)
So here's my question, sequestered safely from the prying eyes of players who supposedly are not permitted to read this forum.
How big a hit is this year's graduation going to be?
My entirely ill-informed opinion up until the past few weeks would have been: serious.
But as of the last few weeks, it seems to me that Coach has built a team that, unlike, the previous dominant power (SLU -- and they were EVERY bit as dominant as this edition of the Red), may not skip much of a beat.
The sophs and frosh seem to be ahead of schedule. If Lenny returns, he will finally get his due for anchoring what thanks to him will return as the GREAT defensive power in the conference. If he does not, the younger players will get their chance to prove themselves when, backed by Marr and Chabot, they will give up 2.5 rather than 1.5 GPG.
With Lenny, this remains a NCAA challenger. Without him, they remain an ECAC contender.
Just my opinion. Any takers?

We aren't going to know for sure until next year, Greg, but what you wrote above is very much what I said on USCHO when a Harvard fan postulated that Cornell fans were going to get their just desserts next year--after this year's seniors graduate.

Mike's biggest personnel challenge, I think, will be plugging the hole left on defense by the graduation of Murray, Mark McRae, and Bell. He'll need to find at least two solid frosh defenseman who can step right in. (This, of course, presumes the return of LeNeveu.)

This topic is rather deceiving. I thought it was going to have something to do with some bone-crushing hit that Murray or Bâby dealt at last night's game!

Or the hit that the Internet has apparently taken within the last 24 hours. USCHO was down this AM but appears to be fine as of 11:40 AM.

I don't think the leadership question will be tough to answer. . .Vesce has developed into a great college center and will surely take over the captains C next season.

He's surely a terrific center. I hope you're right about the leadership aspect.

But I think Bâby is still going to be the hardest to lose. He's great as a defensive forward but obviously can score. He's the one I'd most like on the penalty kill as well as power play. Thinking about it I can't think of a situation where he wouldn't be my first choice as a player to be on the ice.

From what I saw this weekend, we've got a lot of horses up front that could take over. Moulson looked good for a frosh, as did Hynes, and Cam Abbott.
The defense is where I'm worried, too.

Hynes looked good this weekend, especially Saturday, and I don't know what crawled up Moulson's ass, but he looked better than I've remembered all year on Saturday, too. Hopefully they can keep up that level of play.

I agree we've got some good frosh forwards. I just don't know if they will also be as good on defense as Bâby is.
