(Am I the only one who uses ELynah to check scores?)

1 for 7 again on the PP tonight. Any in-person attendants care to comment?

On the first goal, we all thought that Iles covered up the puck and that the play was dead, but then a Brock player forced it in. A few minutes later, Cornell scored what looked like the tying goal, but it was disallowed and I couldn't hear the explanation given as to why. So in summation, the revised final score was 3-1 Cornell.

Whew! I thought "Brock" was shorthand for a regular season-opener vs. Brockport State.

The power play looked awful.
They started looking tired mid-second period and there was some serious sloppiness by the third.
The first Brock goal was frustrating because it looked to be under Iles, frozen, yet they let play continue until it was poked into the net. In all fairness, it was all way down the ice so I can't really say. I was just frustrated because not 2 minutes earlier, the officials had blown the whistle while a puck was rebounding in the air, off the Brock goalie's chest.

We lost a lot of faceoffs and it really hurt us.

I believe the call on the no goal was that the goalie was interfered with on the play. Hard to hear the announcement over the booing. I have video of it and I'll post it tomorrow.

The positives:
McCarron was taking lots of shots and generating a lot of chances. He looks to be making more big plays, instead of just going for the big checks.
Bardreau was in the lineup tonight and seems to have stepped it up from last year. He was aggressive in pursuing the puck and bringing it into the zone.
By the third period, the forecheck became much more aggressive (2 men deep) and was really neutralizing Brock's breakout.
Hilbrich looked pretty good again, doing whatever needed to be done on the ice, including breaking up some dangerous plays near our net.

There was a man in the crease. I believe it was Lowry.

The first Brock goal, Iles stopped it but it slid out behind from under his legs. A Cornell defender whiffed on clearing it and a Brock player jammed it in under Iles legs, it was a legit goal

I take that back. I think Andy actually kicked it in himself trying to regain control of the puck behind him after our defender whiffed.

My take from the weekend is that the staff is going to have a hard time picking who is going to play the next game. It's a nice problem to have, and this is the deepest team that I can remember. I think that is one of the most compelling reasons to have hope for this season. Unless a tragedy happens, remember the north country, we shouldn't have the worry of having to move a defenseman up or a forward back. The last two recruiting seasons have been wonderful. I wonder how much Coach Syer had to do with that. I hope his Associate Head Coach title means it was a lot, and that therefore we have a good future as well.

The big worry is in goal and what happens if Iles gets hurt. Coach Schafer said on the pregame that he'll probably pick up a third from the club team or such, but that means we could be in trouble. Kanji has played in some games, but if we have to use him as our number 1, we'd be in uncharted territory. Next year we'll be in good shape. I was sitting next to a recruit for goalie next year and he was enthusiastic about coming if he gets a bid. He loved the crowd, he said he's never been anywhere like it. His take on the Brock goalie was that he was very good, but he was biased since he trains with him in the off-season. So it seems we should have 3 goalies next year.

Anyway let's hope for a good next weekend, so far the ECAC has performed well in NC games and that should help once NCAA time comes around.
