Watching the NCAA regionals on TV is a reminder that no matter how exciting the game, nobody cares, statistically. Pro hockey is supposed to have better fan demographics among attendees (better HH income, among attendees at least) but TV seems to be dishing up bottom-feeder ads during the NCAA college hockey regionals: debt relief, mortgage debt relief, diabetes test kits, skoreit.com, plus a real ad, for Buick. It does mean if you had a hankering to go see one of the regional finals, you could walk up to the ticket booth on game-day and score decent tickets. Other than at the Carrier Dome (40,000 seats for hoops?), I don't think you do that for the Sweet Sixteen in basketball. But hockey gets Barry Melrose, and he's entertainment in itself. Even if his rejoinder about all the great beards come playoff time ("and that's just on the girls" ) goes back at least to early Robin Williams.
If I was on the ad side of the media business, I'd buy a package of ads for real companies for the college hockey, wrestling, swimming, etcetera finals. It has to be a bargain.

God bless obscurity. May we never be "blessed" with a high media profile -- that path leads nowhere good.

FWIW, Bridgeport was sold out before the field was announced. Generally, though, you're right.

Record can go gold shipping to record stores and sometimes go gold in the opposite direction with all the returns. I can't imagine a fan being turned away who showed up Saturday look for a ticket.Greenberg '97

I decided to watch North Dakota - Denver rather than Kentucky-Carolina basketball. I figured I tuned in hoops the last 3 minutes, it's likely that's all of the game that matters.
