Goal by Nash skating with Greening and Devin 5 x 5

Gallagher is sometimes skating with Jillson

Crap. Princeton scores as a PP expires, play-by-play has no idea who put it in.

And Princeton is right back on the power play.

Not a good period for Cornell. I don't know what game the refs are watching. They missed some clear trips and crease violations against the Big Red. Scrivens is getting roughed up. Also, too many PP ops for Princeton.

Funky deflection gets through on the powerplay for Princeton.

2-2.

Turnover at the blueline leads to a breakaway and a shortie for Princeton.

3-2 :(

We going to live long enough to see a SHG by Cornell? Let alone a MADE penalty shot (1980s)?

We did have two shorties last year, so it hasn't been that long.

3-2 final...for one of the supposed best PP and PK teams in the country, special-teams were pretty awful tonight: 2 PPGs and 1 SHG allowed, 0 PPGs scored.

Not an enjoyable game to watch. Over the last 30 minutes, Cornell looked disorganized, a step off the play, and they were tripped a lot without any calls.

I'm not ready to jump ship yet, but they need to wake from their slumber soon with some tough competition coming up.

And we just saw what can happen with tough competition.

Actually only one of the Princeton goals was really a PPG, as according to Jason Weinstein (radio / B2TV announcer) the penalty had expired a couple of seconds before the first Princeton goal. Even so, your point stands. Pretty awful night.

In all good movies, the hero has to suffer a crisis just before the final reel, otherwise it doens't make for good drama and an upbeat ending. Maybe Sandra Bullock can stop by and give a Blind Side style pep talk. The ball is now in the coach's court.

Owing to the tie in Tuesday's first game, every team except Cornell comes away with at least 1 point. We don't even have the consolation of being one of two 0-2 tourney teams.

We don't even have the consolation of being one of two 0-2 tourney teams.

There can only be one 0-2 team in a tournament of four teams where the respective winners and losers of the first round play each other.

Right. The matrix of possibilities was too much.

Mike Schafer in the Star Gazette
"Obviously this weekend was lost before the weekend began. (It was lost) through exams and what guys did at home over Christmas break because we had no legs -- we were lethargic. We came out and played a solid first period but it seemed that was all that was left in the tank the rest of the night."
Not sure if this came off the way Schafer intended. Princeton and CC players take exams, too, and most likely get a couple days off before heading to Florida. The other teams' players perhaps coped better.

Based on his remarks in his pregame interview with Jason Weinstein, I think that Mike Schafer's point was that the players didn't skate enough or otherwise do enough to maintain their conditioning over the holiday break. The players should be prepared to do lots of gassers during the next couple of days.

Not that it's an excuse for Cornell, but Princeton's fall semester exams start January 13 and finish January 23--the way Cornell used to do it back in the day. Like a few other Ivies, Princeton has resisted the move to complete fall semester by the year-end holidays.
