Hey all -

Fan voting for the Hobey Baker Award is now open at:

According to the site, "The fans’ vote accounts for a full 1% of the total ballot in each phase in selecting this year’s award recipient." Right now, Scrivens is in 17th place, behind players from St. Lawrence, Niagara and even Canisius. Clearly, we can do better!

You can vote once per day. Spread the word and boost Scrivens to the top!

Where are you seeing the standings? After I vote, I get a blank page.

If you go back to the original page after voting, there is a button next to the "Vote" button for Results.

All you need is one fan smart enough to write a good script.

Smart enough and willing. I think fan voting for the Hobey is silly so I wouldn't bother even if I did remember enough web scripting to do it.

Agreed, and I don't.

When I voted I had to type in the unique number/letter code. How do you jam the voting and by-pass that step?

Some people in North Dakota (and Princeton too) either figured that out or have nothing better to do than vote for Genoway.

7068: Chay Genoway - North Dakota - Jr - D
6019: Mark Magnowski - Princeton - Jr - F

Couldn't tell you. I'm sure someone could (and probably has) figured that out. Image analysis?

The CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart) on the Hobey site is about as easy to crack as there is. Spammers have come up with some pretty good tools at cracking CAPTCHAs, and I'm sure that they're using one of those tools. The really strong CAPTCHAs have squiggly lines all over them and are nearly impossible to read for humans. The other option for breaking CAPTCHAs is to have the script repeatedly show the CAPTCHA to a human and have him type in the numbers/letters repeatedly. Some spammers run scripts like that and outsource the human part to countries with cheap labor. It seems like we'll never be able to outsmart them.

It's quite a testament to Scrivens's numbers thus far, by the way, that even after giving up four goals in less than 57 minutes of net time last night, Ben still leads the nation in GAA and Save %.

After a brief surge, Scrivens has slowed down and settled back into 17th place. Let's keep it up, guys! And if anyone is enterprising enough with this script idea, perhaps I'll offer them one of my extra tickets to the NCAA Hockey East Regional in Bridgeport...

Scrivens just mentioned on ESPNU during the Maine/UMass intermission on their "Hobey Baker Tracker."

"Some big names on their," said the color guy, who apparently didn't see the box score from Friday's SLU game. Although, I am pretty impressed that 4 GA in half a game inflates his average all the way to 1.41!
