Mugford on the mend
Schafer said it's still too early in the week to know exactly who will and will not be available for this weekend's games against Harvard and Dartmouth, but he did say that senior center Tyler Mugford has skated some to test out “different tape jobs” on his injured leg.
“If he can handle the pain and it doesn't swell up, we'll see what happens,” Schafer said. “But he's at such an early stage, I would think he wouldn't play.”

“When you go on the road it's very simple ... you're not trying to do too much and you don't have the crowd yelling at you on the power play to shoot all the time,” Schafer said.

Even if Mugford doesn't play this weekend, it's encouraging to read that he's skating.

Sadly for the Big Red, this is nothing new. Dating back to the 2006-07 season's playoffs, Cornell is 10-5-1 (.656 winning percentage) on the road against ECAC Hockey opponents, while it's home record against league foes over that span is 8-7-2 (.529).
Shows you how stats are sadly manipulated. The 2006-7 playoffs were losses to Q. So if you start with 2 home losses you're likely to have a worse home record. The 2 road games before that were also losses, to Harvard and Dartmouth. So why didn't he start there. Then the stats would be 10-7-1 (.583) vs. 8-7-2 (.529). Doesn't look so different now. Oh well.

It's hard to argue that stats can be and are manipulated. But that doesn't change the qualitative truth of his statement. One would expect that Cornell would play better at home than on the road. The team typically has been better at home through the years. Last year was a noteworthy aberation even if the numbers (8-5-2, .600) don't show that we were bad at home.

Maybe the student section should STFU already and let the guys play hockey.

It's the fish throwing against Harvard that distracts them! Real fans don't throw fish!

Agreed. Except when a senior defenseman who has never scored a goal has the puck in last period of his last game. (Felli, right?)ugarte

I also fully endorse fans yelling "Pix!"

Actually, it is quite easy to argue that. QED.

No it isn't.
Presumably Keith meant "It's hard not to argue that stats can be and are manipulated."

I just had an awful flashback to having to proofread an engineer's essay in a freshmen writing seminar. Thanks for that.

Well, really, stats can't be manipulated, but how you interpret them can be.

Well, really, an interpretation can't be manipulated, but you can manipulate others through interpretation.
You can also manipulate objects, of course. Like bananas!
