Well, I'm just shocked that nobody else wrote in about the alumni game last night at the Rink in Lansing. Free admission, skeleton pep band (though plenty for the space). Really, lots of fun. Attendance was decent (a hundred people, maybe).

Of course, I'm about the worst person to give any details, since I don't recognize players without their uniforms on (preferably with names on the back). The players were mostly wearing what appeared to be whatever uniform shirts they could find lying about the locker room (Salmela, Seminoff, whatever).

Nieuwy was there, looked to be having a blast skating. Schafer skated (God, I never realized he was so short). Other recent ex players I think I recognized, but don't want to publicly out myself as an idiot at facial recognition.

Players ranged from recent vintage to more mature (a fair number seemed to be in their thirties, which makes them too old for me to have a shot at recognizing them). One goalie looked to be 50, but spry and pretty quick, he was definitely the oldest guy out there.

I wish to heck they had at least given out a list of participants...anybody got one?

So, maybe this should be under "you know you're desperate for hockey when...". Except, I would have gone even during the season. It was very relaxed, fun and entertaining.

I think that goalie played last year too. I can't remember his name, but I remember him being surprisingly agile.

Ned Harkness was introduced along with some alumni who did not dress for the game (Stephen Bâby, Ryan Vesce.....). I looked at the players list from the 2005 alumni game to refresh my memory of the 2006 participants. I'm sure I've forgotten most of them. But, the ones that I recall are: Tony Eisenhut '88, Scott Garrow, Robb Cutting, Ryan Moynihan '00, Dave Francis '02, Denis Ladouceur '02, Wayne Stokes '76, Rich Sacchetti '00, Joe Nieuwendyk '88, Jeremey Downs '05(?), Mike Schafer '86.

The goalie who played his heart out, wearing red, was Tom Fox '71.

Coach Schafer actually did the player announcements between the two periods.

A fun way to spend a Friday evening.

I wish I would have known, or I would have gone.

I went and personally didn't think it was too interesting. It was kind of fun to see Schafer skating, but without the crowd participation it wasn't nearly as fun as a real Cornell game. Also, the players were trying to pass as much as possible and to hit as little as possible, so it wasn't the most exciting game.

That said, it was nice to see some Cornell hockey over the summer. I feel that if it was at Lynah, I could've convinced more of my friends to go and the atmosphere would've been better. I really liked the little kids who chanted "Wet's go wed!"

Well, except for the construction equipment and the lack of ice. :-}

I don't know, it might have been more fun when you put it that way.
