Alright, now that I've sucked you in with the subject, this is just another magazine report. Yes, I spend my Sunday's lazily reading magazines and watching football.

In the current issue of Cornell Alumni Magazine (Nov/Dec 05), there is a very nice feature on coach Schafer.

Some things of note:
- "If a player misses a class, he must be in Schafer's office every day for two weeks from 8 a.m. until his first class of the day."

- Rules of Schafer : "No Jewelry. No long or bleached hair. Players can't enter his office wearing a backwards baseball cap."

Now, how I arrived at the subject:
The article states: " [Schafer] was courted by other universities ... but Cornell kept him with a lucrative six-year contract extention."

Schafer is quoted as saying: "Cornell made it clear that they want me, but that could always change. This is sports, I have aspirations of coaching in the professional ranks, but that's down the road. Right now, I'm committed to trying to win a national champtionship."

Alright, so Schafer is leaving Cornell eventually. He's not going to be a Jerry York (34 seasons at BC) or Jack Parker (33 seasons at BU).

Once again, the alumni magazine has sharp criticism of the trustees related to the Lehman situation. Happy reading. :-P

I remember that from reading that article I got the impression McKee wouldn't be back next year.

I don't think he is going anywhere if he keeps playing the way he is.

There is something in there that gives my stomach a sick feeling...or maybe it's that Davenport left last year, our first choices keep going elsewhere, and our most recent recruit (and possibly the only returning goalie next year) isn't even dressing for games...gulp.

Lipsey's piece said this would be the year to challenge for the title because who knows what McKee is doing next year. I think you'd read too much into the story to take it as gospel, on the word of a very good Sports Illustrated golf writer who is a Cornell alum, that McKee is out of there.

OTOH he was born in June 1983 so next summer he's 23 years old. He's not a kid.
