Why not have a handout on proper cheering techniques?

Due to the highly disorganized and idiotic line number system that occured tonight (ahem... I got shafted this time), it could also mean that section B isn't, well... "Section B" any more. and the cheers will probably be more disorganized this year...
As a freshman last year, I understand that it might take a few games or two to learn all of the chants, rituals, and traditions, but last year, there were still sections that screwed up the cheers like speeding up the clapping during the cowbell even in the later game (come on!).
So my idea was...
Why not have some sort of handout given out during the first few games with all of the proper words for all of the cheers and tips like:
-Clap at a CONSTANT speed during the cowbell song, etc.
because not everyone there reads the elynah.com cheer page (they should)
Just my two cents...

While I agree with your sentiment, the sad truth is that people don't like being told what to do. Basically, if they want to clap poorly, they're going to clap poorly.

It's been done before. Wasn't terribly well received (though no one gave me much of a hard time about it).

I have to say, from parts of D (definitely E) and beyond, it's nearly impossible to make out the cowbell - even when Age was playing it . Same goes for Gary Glitter, the beat echos and is hidden. Some of it's not a matter of ignorance, but just acoustics. But sometimes, it's ignorance.

As far as clapping is concerned, I was more bothered by the Gary Glitter speeding up than the cowbell speeding up, mostly because it's really hard to keep time with the cowbell on the opposite side of the rink. As great as the cowbell is, having it in Section B, isolated from most of the crowd, makes it very difficult to keep time with it especially because it comes out at seemingly random times during the game. Gary Glitter is the same every time , there are visual clapping cues from Section B, and people still mess it up, diminishing the effect of our most resounding cheer. Everyone should teach the people in their section what to do, and maybe it will be better.

What's the point? I'm pretty sure most of the people who got those numbers won't be at all the games anyways and the ones they are at they won't make it to until the second period.

The band batted around a similar idea a year or two ago, but nothing came of it.

There was definitely concern about that ... nobody wanted it to look like the band was trying to boss everyone around, even if the intention was just to bring people more quickly up to speed.
Maybe something as simple as a a piece of paper with the Elynah Cheers URL, posted on the door at the main entrances at the first few games could get some newbies' attention.
