I just donated two of my tickets, as per the other thread, and wanted to make sure anyone who wanted to do the same could still do it. The Columbus Ice Hockey Clib is still taking donated tickets. As was posted Eric Martineau runs it. 614-263-1958 He says anyone with extra tickets can leave then at will call in care of John Haferman. Put down all your info for proper charity credit and they will mail a receipt to you. He's very happy about the response.
See you all in Columbus.
See you all in Columbus.

Jim,
I had to laugh...the message heading caught my eyes "Leftover Frozen..." It did not sound very appetizing

Denver scores on the PP to make it 1-0 with 4-5 minutes left in the 1st period.
Denver now makes it 2-0 quickly

very high praise for our boys from Mr. Melrose during the first intermission, ~"Cornell had a great team this year ... they got a tough draw playing Minnesota in Minny on an olympic sheet. If they played on an NHL sheet I think Cornell beats Minnesota."
nice to hear someone else agrees with me
EDIT: he picks McKee for the Hobey too!

anyone else starting to think the ECAC refs really aren't that bad? [gasp] man, the games i've seen with WCHA and CCHA refs make me cringe ... they're terrible, maybe even making murphy look competent.
EDIT: and the superb wcha skaters can’t skate! they tend to fall down all over themselves.

[q]anyone else starting to think the ECAC refs really aren't that bad? [gasp] man, the games i've seen with WCHA and CCHA refs make me cringe ... they're terrible, maybe even making murphy look competent.[/q]Refs just suck in general. Refereeing is a thankless job. No one notices you until you screw up. And since just about every penalty call is somewhat subjective (was there sufficient contact there? was there hooking motion) and made very quickly refs are setup up to be "terrible".
[q]and the superb wcha skaters can’t skate! they tend to fall down all over themselves.[/q]I noticed that with Minnesota too.

I'm just tuning into the CC/Denver game right now, and while it appears the seats have mostly filled, they sound quiet. Really quiet. Maybe they're all CC fans and they're aghast at CC being four goals behind at this point (or they're praying for a repeat comeback like against Michigan). Are there just too many fans from too many different schools that aren't CC or Denver there? Or do these guys really need to be instructed how to cheer by a certain eastern school?

As an Ice Hockey official, I can tell you that it truely is a thankless job.
even in the youth hockey ranks where I ref (17 and under boys, 19 and under girls and below) everyone hates the reffs. Coaches often will not shake hands with the officials, say good game, or show anything that resembles good sportsmanship towards officials after the game. (an exception is the local Ithaca Coaches, they are very good about treating us well, because often they know they will see us next week/month/year and that we don't forget things).
I often find myself feeling sorry for the refs at lynah, the majority of the time they are doing a damn good job. Alot of the calls the faithful complain about, are the right call, and the faithful just don't know the rules.
just my two cents...

To be fair, sometimes, some of us just don't see the penalized action in question, so we're left wondering what the hell the ref is thinking. Also, homerism does play a small role.

I agree, but saying the "The Ref beats his wife" when he makes a perfectly legit call is harsh. and it is often do to ignorance.
besides... the reffs don't hear anything we yell

Also to be fair, sometimes there are plenty of folks who do know that it's the right call and don't complain. But it's not like we're going to loudly yell "Good call ref!" to try to drown out those less-educated fans who are complaining.
I wasn't a hockey fan until I started going to Cornell games. I knew I'd become a fan of the sport and not just a Cornell rooter when I found that i could no longer complain when a good call went against Cornell.

You mean I've been shouting "The wife beats the ref" for nothing?

Melrose said a few nice things about us last week too. Should we start calling him "Melrose '79"?
