Tomorrow's going to be a strange day. Binghamton men's lax visits Schoellkopf at 4 p.m. on the anniversary (minus 24 hours) of the passing of George Boiardi, who died during last season's game against the Bearcats. It feels wrong to dwell on that, but it's unavoidable. Tomorrow will be a good purge. No special events are scheduled; time to just play.
It's an important game for Cornell. After a breakthrough year in 2004, Binghamton is struggling, and Cornell needs to get back on course. Binghamton's problem: They just can't score or win a faceoff.
I can't go, but I urge people to show up. Attendance has been so damn bad, and these early weekday games can be empty.
And if you go, please acknowledge Binghamton. They suffered enormously too last year, and their private and public tributes and expressions of support to the Boiardis and Cornell were extraordinarily generous. For the rest of the 2004 season they wore a large, red "21" on their helmets: [athletics.binghamton.edu]
