Matt Connors is back from injury and back scoring. Evan Barlow is now #2 in scoring on his team, and #10 in all of the BCHL (#7 in goals scored). Tyler Mugford sure is racking up the penalty minutes.

Evan Barlow 43-33-30-63-53
Mike Kennedy 32-15-19-34-28
Tyler Mugford 46-1616-32-100
Matt Connors 33-13-16-29-16
Jared Seminoff 39-5-13-18-58
Taylor Davenport 46-7-11-18-72
Colin Greening N/A

[q]Tyler Mugford sure is racking up the penalty minutes. [/q]I'll be the first to ask: Is Tyler Mugford a liability based on all the penalties he's taking? :-D

Not that impressive of a line for Matt Connors, if he really is one of our top recruits. I know he has amazing speed and that a numbers line isn't always a tell-all, but Mike Karwoski, a Yale recruit, has a 30-56-86 line in 57 games, and Rich Purslow, still undecided, has a 45-48-93 line in 63 games playerd. Both play on the same team as Connors.

Connors has battled injuries all season. He is thought of as superior to Karwoski and Purslow at least from what I've heard. I'm not worried about him at all.

a piece on Jared Seminoff from his local newspaper:

It's a poorly written/edited article with a lot of 'scholarship' and 'full-ride' being thrown about. Has some perhaps unfortunate editorializing by the person who posted the article to hfboards.com

He doesn't really come off as much of a classy kid in this article with some of the quotes.

[q]"Plus I could get hurt in my first year, and I still know I'm going to have four years of paid school guaranteed."[/q]
I said the same thing when I signed on to study at Cornell. Of course it was my parents and my bank account that were paying for it. Maybe he'll be surprised when he shows up and finds out it works (supposedly) the same way for him as it did for me :-}

HAHAHAHA I love the "Kmad note" about his friend's sister. Amazing.

I hope you're right but my best friend played on Applecore this season and seems to think that Karwoski and Purslow are much, much better.

Did we read the same article??

[q]"My coach (Bill Bestwick) and the coach at Cornell are good buddies so a lot of Clippers tend to go there," Seminoff added. "It's such a great school with its old 18th century buildings. It's like a place right out of a movie. I'm so excited things just fell into place."
[/q]

[q]"Going to college I know I'm going to get an education," said Seminoff, always knowing he wanted to pursue the college route instead of playing in Tier I junior hockey.[/q]

[q]However, instead of staying home to complete his minor hockey career, Seminoff decided to attend Notre Dame, in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. The move, according to Jared, was the right one to make at the time.

"It was definitely a bonus for me and I feel a turning point in my life," Seminoff explained. "It made me focus more on hockey and schooling. I don't think I could ask for it to work out any better."
[/q]

OK, I am definitely showing my ignorance here, but...

Has Cornell (and other Ivy League schools) started offering athletic scholarships? Last I knew one of the things that distinguished the Ivy League schools from the others was that we --did not-- offer athletic scholarships.

The article referenced above certainly makes it sound like this player is attending Cornell on an athletic scholarship.

Am I that out of touch with what's been going on, or is the article just misleading?

Thanks.

The article isn't misleading, but Canadian terminology doesn't necessarily translate well into what we in the US are accustomed to calling "scholarships."

[Q]With regard to Canadians specifically, the semantic issue is central to the confusion. According to one of eLynah's resident canucks, "most Canadians refer to any kind of [financial] help as a scholarship because we don't have need based financial aid."[/Q]

It's misleading. Read the FAQ:

EDIT: Doh! Hovorka beat me to it. Nevermind.
