Big Red fans pack one side of Meehan Auditorium at a time when Brown students are on winter break.

PROVIDENCE -- Between the cow bells, the fans and the band, home-ice
advantage was non-existent for the men of Brown last night.

With winter break in effect and the students not on campus, Meehan
Auditorium seemed to be disguised as Cornell's Lynah Rink, and the
Big Red took advantage of the allegiance of their fans and beat the Bears, 4-2.

One side of Meehan was completely filled with Red and White and the
visiting team didn't disappoint, scoring two power-play goals and adding
two even-strength tallies, snapping the Bears' seven-game unbeaten
streak. It was the first time since the 2001-2002 season the Big Red
sweep the season series.

"It's a little disappointing, obviously," said Brown head coach Roger
Grillo. "I give them credit. Their students and their fans do a great job.
Up at their place it's a thousand times that. It's a little disappointing
to deal with that in our building, but that's reality."

The realization that the Bears got away from their game plan early
was quite evident, despite an early lead.

"We sat back and stopped skating," said Grillo. "We stopped winning
races, we put the puck in bad spots, turned the puck over too many
times and gave them too many quality scoring chances. And, obviously
didn't do the job on the penalty kill."

The Bears jumped out to an early lead with a fierce forecheck. Brown's
pressure caused a turnover in the offensive zone as Cory Caouette
collected the loose puck in the slot and fired a snap shot past a
screened Cornell goalie, David McKee, for a 1-0 lead just 1:22 into
the first period.

The Big Red answered late in the period when Raymond Sawada's
shot from the top of the left face-off circle was redirected off a
Brown defender and slipped past Bears goalie Adam D'Alba at
11:23. Cornell took a 2-1 lead at 18:55 of the period, capitalizing
on the club's second power play of the night. Matt Moulson took
a centering pass from Shane Hynes and broke in alone, beating
D'Alba with one second remaining on the man-advantage.

Cornell climbed all over the Bears in the second period.

Paul Varteressian received a nifty cross-ice pass from linemate Matt McCutcheon
and beat D'Alba with a wrister to the top corner for a 3-1 advantage at 5:39.
The Big Red added their second power-play tally of the night at 12:08 for a 4-1
lead when Daniel Pegoraro picked up the rebound on the off post, and beat a sprawling D'Alba.

Before the game really got out of control, Brown answered late in the period.

The Bears' Antonin Roux notched a power-play goal on Brown's second
man-advantage of the night at 17:26 to get back to within two goals.

Cornell's third-period pressure stifled the Brown attack as the Big Red came away with the
victory at what must have felt like home.

"The aura that Cornell has and its success in the past ," said Brown captain Les Haggett. "They are a physical
team and I really believe they can be beaten.
I think we can do it and hopefully we face them again the playoffs."

Brown returns to action tonight against Colgate at home, beginning at 7.
