Fellow Big Red Hockey Fans:

This is an appeal for help. No, not to beat Harvard, or Clarkson, or to screw BU. This fight is about beating cancer, something that has touched the lives of many of us.

Being an avid cyclist, for the last 7 years or so, I've made it a point to put my physical well-being and ability to good use by doing at least 1 multi-day charity ride each year. I rode from Ground Zero to the Pentagon in memory of those lost on 9/11. I rode from Montreal to Portland, ME and between NYC and Boston to raise money to help people with AIDS. And beginning last year, I started doing the Pan-Mass Challenge.

If you aren't familiar with it, the PMC is a 2-day, 180-mile ride that raises money for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through the Jimmy Fund. In its 25 year history, the PMC has become the most successful event of its type, raising over $100 million to fund cancer care and cutting-edge research. This year, the target is another $17 million (with about 94% of every dollar donated going directly to Dana-Farber), and that's where you come in.

Please consider not only helping a fellow Cornellian, but more importantly, giving hope to thousands who face the day-to-day trials of dealing with cancer.

Here's a link to my profile page on the PMC site:

You can learn more about the PMC by following the links. And you can also make an online tax-deductible donation by using the eGift button to the right of the story. If you'd prefer to donate via check, you can make it out to "PMC - Jimmy Fund" and send it to:

Thanks ever so much from me, the other riders, and especially all of those for whom we're riding.

LGR!!!

Just back from a 75-mile training ride. Whew! Hot out there. Glad we got out early today. I think we'll try the same approach tomorrow.

Thanks to those of you who've checked this out and are thinking of helping.

Bob

Found out the other day that the woman who cuts my hair has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Guess I have one more reason to ride hard and keep fundraising.

Thanks again to those of you who have made a donation. Slowly but surely, we'll get there.

Thank You!

Many thanks to those of you who supported us on the ride.

It truly was a wonderful experience - over 4,000 riders; more than 2,000 volunteers; incredible weather; a route lined with people cheering us on, displaying signs of encouragement, sharing their stories, handing out water and snacks. And the best part? The fact that when all is said and done, this year's ride is expected to set a new record by exceeding the $17 million goal originally set. That's $17 million going to Dana-Farber to give new hope to those facing cancer.

BTW, there's still time to contribute. Here's the link to my profile page once again. Please consider making a donation.

If you're on the fence about giving, believe me, when you ride into a rest stop and you see a little boy there with a sign that reads, "I'm 8 now, thanks to you", you have no doubts whatsoever that you're doing a good thing.
