To the goal scoring sheet. 1-2-3 tonight in a 5-4 win over the Rangers. That gives him 5 points in his last two games (both wins against NYR), and 4-7-11 in 15 GP on the year.

Yay!
Shouldn't this be in the "Cornell alumni in the pros" thread, though?

I thought about it, but this deserves its own, and that thread's running very nicely with stories from the minor pros.

Meh, I don't really care, it's good news no matter where it's posted.

With 10 mins to go in Boston, Joe already has 2 goals.

Go Joe!
"Nieuwendyk has three goals and seven points in the last three games for Toronto, which pulled within one point of Philadelphia for the top spot in the Eastern Conference and three points ahead of Boston in the Northeast Division."

At 6-7-13 he's 5th on the Leafs in scoring, which is remarkable seeing as how he missed 11 of their 27 games.
He's also seeing a lot of pp time, so hopefully the points keep on coming.
Last night was his 200th RS PP goal.
At 517 goals, he ranks 27th in NHL history, 1 behind Dale Hawerchuck. Here's an amzing stat, to me at least. He's just 7 behind Bryan Trottier, and he has played about 150 *fewer* games than Trots.

Yeah. And 2 of those games were against the Rangers. Couldn't he have used 2 more games of rest before he returned?

Of course, Trottier is about 390 assists ahead of him...

I think the only "college" player ahead of him is Brett Hull. True?

The only player among the top 20 goal scorers who isn't in the Hall of Fame--or still playing--is Dino Ciccarelli, who retired after 1998-9 and so became eligible last year or this. The Rocket is 20th with 544. Bossy had 573 in only ten seasons!

As of the start of the season, here's the list of those above him: [www.members.cox.net]
Hull is the only player with NCAA experience above him, AFAIK.
BTW, I am still looking for a pic of Joe playing as a Cornellian.

There's one on page 250 of Bob Kane's Good Sports. If someone has the book and a scanner...
