It's game week.

Who's going? Where ya sittin'?

My group has nine tickets in Section 15, Row D.

I'l be in Anne's group -- all I know about our seats is that they're inside the building.

4 seats, I don't know where but I think we got them through harvard's ad which is kind of funny

I'm with Doc Robin down in 19 on the glass. The Cornell Club has a good chunk of 19 with some spillover into 20.

Me, my gf, my friend, my dad, my sister, and maybe more... we're all over the place .

I'll be there with six others (three pairs of tickets all over the place), and I might be getting more standing room tickets today. We'll see about that, though.

Will I see everyone at John Harvard's beforehand?

Now that I just purchased SRO tickets, I'll be there as well.

I'll be standing somewhere!! Woohoo!! When I gave the ticket lady a 607 contact phone number, she didn't sound surprised at all...

I think the surprise comes when she hears a Boston-area phone #.

Nah, lots of Cornell alumni in Boston. It'd have to be a Boston-area code with a Harvard campus exchange for it to be REALLY surprising.

So I guess my buddies and I surprised the hell out of them. Of course, we all tried for Cornell section tickets.

As a side note, I have a feeling they are desparate to dump the (probably hundreds) of extra tickets, as they realize, once again, that they have no fans. Remember, this game will be televised, so we really should show the rest of the college hockey world what home ice advantage is all about.

I did not toss the tickets in the trash and down the garbage chute this year. They are sitting in front of me and I just looked at them last night.

Being that the Boston and Ithaca area codes differ by a single middle digit - we need an upright one as our middle digit because that's the way Boston area driver's drive with an upright middle digit - I wonder if Harvard even notices. Moving from Ithaca to Boston, I often gave out my phone number with the 607 area code. Making it worse was that I actually lived in apartment 607 for several years when I moved here - somebody once asked me if I chose that number specifically because of Cornell - uh, love the school but um, no.

It's still an amazing coincidence. A friend of mine dropped out of Cornell last year and moved to Miami. He now lives on Cayuga Street there.

Well, when I was young I lived 5 blocks from Cornell medical school and my mom taught elementary school across from Sloan Kettering which is just up the street from Cornell med. so I walked by the place a lot. Then I moved to LI and my elementary school was at the corner of Marion and Cornell streets. Maybe I have an overactive subconscious. I don't live in apt. 607 anymore but I did move to Brookline which sounds a lot like Brooklyn which if you reverse the syllables as Italian immigrants did in the early 1900's, you get Lynbrook which is where on LI I grew up. My subconscious is now telling me to stop with the coincidences and to remind everyone who's not going to John Harvard's to come to the Cornell Club's reception before the game. Damn, there I go with that Cornell connection again.

I read that and did a double-take, wondering if he was talking about visiting fans/band who show up or the Harvard crowd. I didn't think he would bash his own "fans" like that, but I guess he did. Can't say he's lying...

Does anyone know if Harvard is strict on seating? because my sister has a standing room ticket that I was hoping to squeeze in with us.

The student sections are usually empty because those seats are general admission but the reserved seating sections will be full. You should be able to find a seat at least for the first period. If you sit in the student section, beware of the football players showing up midway through the second period. That's how it has been in the past...not sure if they have changed any other ticket policies for this game besides "the package."

Anyone want to drop their pants with me and show them some real packages?

Will the pep band be at the game on friday night? I know they travel while school is in session, but what about over breaks?

The band will be at both games.

Lenard, we're the other group in Section 15, Row D. We'll make sure your sister can squeeze in somewhere. That'll be a really friendly area of the arena where Cornell fans can easily find a chunk of space to stand.

Why is it always FREEZING COLD when we're at lynah east???? I don't think I have any memories of walking from Harvard Sq. to Lynah East and feeling warm , or even feeling not cold .

Postgame last year, a bunch of us went to the Hong Kong for Scorpion Bowls. I recommend the same this year.

Ugh. I wish I could recommend the same thing, but the Hong Kong was not good to me last year. Actually, I don't think I've been back since then, but if the Red win, then I guess I'll have to go back...

On an unrelated note, friends of mine have two tickets in section 1 - one in row B and one in row F. Is there anyone else in that section with split tickets that might be able to re-shuffle to get our people closer together?

I think I paid $15 for the two tickets so buy me two beers and you have yourself a ticket (or $7.50)! I'll know exactly how much I paid when I pick them up tomorrow...

I hope someone has a sign urging Harvard to balance out the ECAC by moving hockey down to Div III.

Maybe that hits too close to home, since the league's screwed if it loses the actual Div III schools....?

Actually, in retrospect I wish I'd thought of suggesting someone just make a sign that said "WELCOME TO LYNAH EAST" for the TV cameras. (Did the "Cornell Students Takeover Venue" sign make it onto the broadcast?)

To be fair, if I remember correctly, Harvard has more varsity teams than any other school in D-1. I think the actual count is somewhere around 55 varsity teams....

I think you're right about having the most varsity D-I sports (just above Cornell at #2 ) but the number I count on the Harvard Athletics site is 37, although I'm sure that doesn't account for club sports not covered by the NCAA such as Ultimate Frisbee and the like.

As far as I know, Ultimate is a club sport at Harvard (and at Cornell - and pretty much everywhere else).

I think the difference between the numbers that you've posted is the difference between teams and sports. Harvard might have 37 distinct varsity sports, and still support 50+ varsity teams. For example, ice hockey is one varsity sport, but two varsity teams. Field hockey and football would each account for one sport and one team.

Didn't see the "venue" sign, but Kenny Albert reported that the Cornell fans were chanting "This is our house" in the last minute or so of the game. You could hear the chant in the background but not really make out the words.

For football you have men's football and men's sprint football, counting for two. In rowing, it's three: men's heavyweight, men's lightweight, and women's.

I seem to remember a list of Cornell sports that presented Football and Sprint Football as separate "sports" - although now that I think about it that may have been a list of teams. Doesn't make much sense to me that they would be considered different sports, although I guess there are rules differences. Anyway, lots of weird things like that - I think indoor and outdoor track are considered separate teams, although most of the participants are the same.
