Hm. Odd. I was basing my guesses on what they look like underneath the fancy graphics.
Somehow, that sounded dirty. . . I'll try again.
I meant the ascii text symbols that they used as the basis for the graphic. Like (-: would be a smiley face. Only backwards.
I really have GOT to get some work done today. . .

The ASCII versions are pretty arbitrary. In fact I just changed the crying one because it had an issue with one browser. It just does a replace.

Well, so much for my theory. ) (I still think this one is laughing, though)
Actually, isn't sticking out its tongue?

just kidding
winking
Jesus, you guys are a big help. I meant, what does the "just kidding" grin connote that the "winking" smile doesn't? Is it a matter of degree? I have always used the wink for irony/sarcasm. Now suddenly I'm questioning my emoticon etiquette.

If it's any consolation to you, Greg, I always used the wink as irony/sarcasm, and the big grinning green face as, well, a big grinning green face.
You know, it occurs to me that this is the exact *opposite* of getting work done. . .
