At a serious risk of denigration, this is the same team as last year except for Downs and Cook. perhaps they were more important than we knew.

Don't forget Hynes.

Or Iggy, Vart and Knopfli...They're especially important when we're without 3 of our starting defensemen.

Waved off because of a hand pass. Not quite sure how the hand pass factored into the play, but it did.

RPI announcers get some credit for admitting that the hand pass wave-off was legitimate.

I did a little searching on Expedia.com and it looks like Northwest is the only airline that flies into Grand Forks. It is also a Friday-Saturday regional, so depending on the flight schedule, you may need to take Thursday as a travel day too. If they have to be sent west I'm pulling for Green Bay and a 6 hr drive from IN.

Damn NC$$. You would hope they would have the common sense to put the regional that is most difficult to get to as a Sat-Sun regional. It might help the "cents" part of things too.

I'm just inferring from the original radio call. There was talk of a shot by Bitz, and then him gathering up his own rebound and putting it in. There wasn't a whole lot of detail. Sorry.

So, we do anything wrong? This sounded like Lange was just a wall.

I was wondering about this too. Hot goalie or lack of offense? We had chances, but we do not seem to have a "sniper", a true "GO_TO" guy. McC was filling that role earlier this season.

So the combination of having a relatively inexperienced D-core compared to recent years, and an offense that isn't potent, means are coming up short in a lot of games, like this one and the at Princeton game. I think at this point, I'm leaning towards a "not very explosive" offense.

edit: Maybe "pathetic" like Al suggested would be a better description rather than "not explosive".

Oh-no! We suckagain! worry

Think positive guys. If we lose tomorrow, then we might not get a first-round bye in the ECAC playoff. So we might get to see more of Cornell awesome hockey next weekend! Here in Lynah!! :-} Yay

Ok fine. Seriously, I am counting on our team to do some damage tomorrow against Union. We should expect to see significant improvement in every aspect of the team. I don't know why, but that's just my gut feeling.

I was actually thinking about this. I think I saw some posts earlier saying we were guaranteed a buy. However, both Sucks and SLU(t) are 2 points behind us. Since they don't play each other tomorrow, a win for both of them and a loss for us would have all three of us at 27pts a piece. How is it decided then who doesn't get the buy? Does it go by GF in the ECAC RS?

We have the first round bye clinched.

Umm... don't we?

Anyone know if we win a tiebreaker against harvard?

First tie breaker is head to head in the group.

We're 1-0-1 against SLU and 1-1 against Harvard. Making us 2-1-1.

Harvard is 1-1 versus us and 2-0 versus SLU. Making them 3-1.

SLU is 0-1-1 versus us and 0-2 versus Harvard. Making them 0-3-1.

Harvard would get 3rd, we'd get 4th, SLU 5th. We'd get the last bye..

Btw, its "bye", not "buy".

Thanks for clearing that up, Delta.

Not being a native English speaker, what is the origin of it being "bye" and not "buy"?

Using a little bit of guess work and a little bit of Merriam Webster.com - it says that "bye" in the sports meaning is an alternation of "by".

Now here's my guessing part: that would make sense as far as you get to "go by" (skip/pass) the first round (or two, etc). Calling it a "by" probably didn't seem intelligent enough, so it changed to "bye". And its always easier to add an 'e' on the end in English than to stick a 'u in the middle :)

Your seedings are correct, but the procedure in a three-way tie is a bit different. As noted above, Harvard gets the third seed based on head-to-head record among the three teams. The process then starts over from the beginning to break the (now) fourth-place tie between Cornell and St. Lawrence. Cornell wins this one based on head-to-head. The starting-over step doesn't make a difference here, but it's not hard to come up with a scenario in which it would change the order of the seedings.

If the tie is with just Harvard (for third place), Cornell wins on the second tiebreaker, record against top 4 -- which would mean record against Dartmouth and Colgate, the top two teams in this case. Cornell would be 3-1, Harvard 2-2. If St. Lawrence makes it a three-way tie, then Cornell gets seeded behind Harvard. (see above)

I thought you only started over if there was still a tie while knocking one off.

I.e. if Harvard won but Cornell and SLU tied in the H2H category, Harvard would get third, and instead of going on to record against top 4, you would start over with Cornell/SLU H2H.

But if the 3 way tiebreaker separates a 1/2/3 on its own then no reason to start over.

But I could be wrong :)

Nope, they always start over with the remaining teams. The idea is not to give a team a higher seeding in a three-way tie than they would have gotten if the tie were between only two teams. Of course, it doesn't work in this case -- Cornell would beat Harvard in a two-way tie but gets seeded behind the Crimson in a three-way.

Somehow I'm beginning to get skeptical that every single goalie we face is virtually a wall against us. Out offense is just pathetic on some nights.
Right. RPI'd given up 2.7 goals per game and we manage one in two games.
a) Lange was good
b) It seemed as if we had two kinds of shots, those just wide (as mentioned on radio) and those right dead center on goal, where Lange was positioned.

McKee had one awesome save 8 minutes into the third. The puck was airborne, headed straight up after a blocked shot, Mckee turned around thinking it was behind, lost sight, it came down about 20 feet in front of the net in traffic, there must have been a pattern he saw even if not the shot coming, and McKee reflexively stuck out his left skate and pad and that's where the shot hit. Maybe lucky, maybe good. Come playoff time, he's going to be an asset.
