Colgate is going to have a "whiteout" Sat night. Should we have a red out for the game friday night?

On colgate's website, they are calling for a student white out on Saturday night:
click the link and then go to the men's hockey page

Should we try to get a student red out on friday night? I know most people wear red to the game, but there are quite a few students who don't wear red. Anyone think its about time for a complete red out (or even a white out) for ourselves? How could we spread the word about it?

We can also "red out" their "white out" on Saturday. I know I'll be at Starr in red:-D

I was at first excited that winter might finally arrive in bare ground central new york, alas this is not the case. However since i have been lured in i must respond.

Without reading the tootpaste article and in lieu of a bright idea, i think a viral approach would help and be practical from an execution standpoint. Tell the people you know that they should wear red to counter the toothpaste white out. Any red will do. A coat, a t-shirt, a xmas sweater, you name it. Tell them to do the same with their freinds. Mention that although Harvard is a big game this series will largely determine if Cornell ends up at the top or not. 4 point weekend at stake.

Ill goad the people i know who are going. That's my idea. That said, home jeseys would still suffice.

Doing the exact same thing (i.e. having our own white out) seems... I dunno, lame. A red out would be much better, IMO.

Of course we should red out. We should also shout out, both Friday and Saturday. They pulled a Harvard with their ticket sales. I had to buy tickets for their Dartmouth and Harvard games in order to get our game.Well, they should learn that they can make it difficult but they can't stop us. Be there, in red, and be loud.

I was going to suggest we try to push for the Sea of Red again for Harvard, but honestly, I'd love it even more if we can do it for the home games against Colgate, Dartmouth, and Harvard. Lynah's atmosphere and volume in each of these nights should make the Michigan State games look like a study night in the library. Lynah needs to be rockin' each of those nights, and the stands should be wall-to-wall red.

Obviously, saying it here is just preaching to the Faithful. WillR had the right idea: everyone needs to spread the word. Tell your friends. Have them tell their friends. Notify all the facetimers. If any Sun writers are reading this, maybe you guys could help us out. People sitting on the townie side should do the same: dress in red and be as loud as you possibly can. I know a lot of people are good about this already, but we need to have MORE.

Do your part. Spread the word.

I sent an email to the AD. I suggested sending out an email to the season ticket holders (I know they have or email addresses) and possibly putting up flyers on campus. I'll let you know how he responds. I also think it's a great idea if we could get some sort of mention in the Sun. If anyone works for the Sun, is there any possible way of promoting this in the paper?

They should call it a "drink-out" based on what those idiots traditionally do for the Cornell game

The hockey boosters also have a large mailing list, and it's amazing how often the word doesn't spread from the students to the boosters. Considering that these people not only attend virtually ever game, home and away, but also do so while juggling jobs and kids, I think they'll be more than up for a sea of red, if they know about it.

Gene Nighman and Sue Detzer are far more likely to do something about it than the AD, and they maintain the season ticket holders list and the CHA list respectively.

I've noticed at Penn State, there is always a push to "white out" the student section during home football games and they do an amazing job (including getting a black "S" formation in the crowd).

At the last PSU hockey game I went to, they were giving away white t-shirts to "white out" the crowd against Illinois. I don't know who organizes the give-aways at PSU, but if there was a giveaway with shirts at Lynah (or even selling stuff for 1-2 dollars a piece) that would probably help in getting a "C of red."

We shouldn't do a red out in Lynah just because they're doing a whiteout at Colgate. That's for the wrong reason guys, c'mon. nut We should do our red out because we want to do our red out. And that should be the end of it, right? nut

I'm seriously gonna make a sign reminding these monkeys that they are stealing this "whiteout" idea from PSU.

these monkeys...are stealing this "whiteout" idea from PSU.

And it's not like Penn State originated it or anything. The whiteout concept is ancient and tired and overused -- hundreds of places have been doing it. I think it first got media attention at Winnipeg Jets home games in the '80s, especially in the playoffs. But Jets fans probably stole it from someone else.

Here's my suggestion for a response to a lame Starr whiteout: For a change, make Lynah f'ing loud the whole f'ing game. Now there's a college hockey tradition worth reviving.

We should maximimize the Red and "Let's Go Red" as much as possible on Saturday. It will impress any potential recruits watching on TV to see that Cornell fans really back their team, and, of course, the team will appreciate the support.

I think it was NFL FILMS PRESENTS that did a recent show on college football (or maybe it was on the fans) and had "The Game" featured and the video of the Hahvahd fans holding up the "We Suck" boards. It was late at night and I was channel surfing when I saw the segment. Quite an amazing feat. I hope I can catch the episode being repeated some time soon.

I wish I remember when it was, but IIRC the Texas Tech band played two great pranks on Texas A&M. First, when in formation for the Texas tech logo, the band dropped grass seed for a different color of grass than grows on the field. Over the next few weeks, the Texas Tech logo grew on the center of the A&M field. A&M is furious. Flash forward a few years and the Tech band drops salt on the field, killing grass in the shape of their logo.

I've heard of "people" that buy "Taco Bell grande meals" with 10 "burritos." One time there was an "extra" burrito. There may have also been a "halftime show" on the "field." There was no longer a problem of an extra burrito.

Well, at least it wasn't "our" problem anymore. The "Yale Band" had more difficulty with it however.

Well, at least it wasn't "our" problem anymore. The "Yale Band" had more difficulty with it however.
I'm "ashamed". The "Cornell Band" never did anything "mischievous" or "illegal" back in "my day".

And if "we" had, "it" certainly "wouldn't" have "involved" "peeing" on "law libraries" at "other" "Ivies."

It feels rather weird that the Toothpaste school is calling for a "White out" night. Pretty soon, they are going to have "No Cavities" night too!

French Rage
Seriously. White shirts plus throwing stuff at people doesnt really work.

Throwing pizza at Cornell fans and hitting the only one colgate fan in our section haahhahaahahha... I was pissed then when it happened. But now looking back on it, i just think that was the stupidest hilarious event I've ever seen in recent history.

There should be an email going out to the student season ticket holders about the red out sometime later today or tomorrow. Anyone who is in "The Lynah Faithful" facebook group will get a message on Thursday. Still wondering if anyone can put something in The Sun or get the townies involved with this too.

What about a letter to the Ithaca Journal for Townies. Would that be our best bet???

That would be the great. Also, can anyone get a hold of someone from the CHA to let the townies know?

I'm inclined to suggest that if someone wants to do that, it should be done ASAP to be certain that it gets printed *before* the weekend.

No letter necessary.

I just spoke to Chris Feaver, the writer at "The Ithaca Journal" who is writing the preview piece for Friday's game. (I called him last year about the "Sea of Red" too.) He has agreed to add a line or two mentioning the "Sea of Red" idea, and encouraging fans to wear red.

So we're OK there.

Thanks Andy. I also just found out that it should be in Brain Taso' column in the Daily Sun either tomorrow or Friday (or both).
