Can't we all just get along? ;-)

ah come on...everybody knows us goalies don't play with a full deck. So next time he screens you on a point shot, skate out, get in his face and then ask about the jersey.

Where do you play?

well, it's a respectful diss from me. Back in '74 after Tech absorbed a 9-3 thrashinfg at HFH, I nearly had to spend a night on a park bench in downtown Troy.

But that's a story for another day. Maybe next month in Albany. :-D

Good point. I just play pick-up rec games in Plattsburgh and Chazy, NY right now. Would like to get into a "B" league, but at the moment all of the teams are set for goalies. I have only been playing regularly for a year, but I played occasionally a few years back in Utica on nights when there was only one goalie. Always wanted to play hockey growing up, but played basketball whole life. Much cheaper. Played street hockey often as a kid and was always goalie for that so decided to stick to it when I started playing for real. I like the challenge of being the last resort, especially on break-aways. Wish I could have afforded real hockey when I grew up. Also, not too many opportunities in S.E. Connecticut in the '80's.

Yes, third jerseys that will be auctioned at the end of the season. So really no different in principle than the alternate jerseys that we wore not too long ago, except that Clarkson has worn these more than once.

And, BTW, those "third jerseys" of ours were also butt-ugly. Makes me glad we don't tinker with the design on a regular basis.

Pass that along to the football team.
Got that right. There was a time when the CU football jerseys looked great. I don't know how they got "black" out of "Carnelian red and white."

With the exception of Princeton's helmet, Ivy League football uniforms have gotten lamer and lamer over the last 15 years. I miss the diagonal-striped crew P on the Penn helmet, the coat of arms on the Brown helmet, even the crazy D-in-the-front for Dartmouth.

Harvard and Yale have kept theirs the same for a long time, and I think that's a good thing. What's lame is a new look every few years.

Although the Yankees are occasionally guilty of wearing their dark blue practice jerseys in games. Stick with the pinstriped whites at home and the greys on the road.

How many teams at any level have good 3rd jerseys. Look at the yellow Bruins jerseys. At least the Sox red jerseys aren't horrible, but they certainly aren't the classics of the normal unis.

Actually, they are horrible. If the sports gods wanted major league baseball teams to wear red, blue, orange or any other colored tops--or tops that don't button down the front--they wouldn't have had to invent softball.

I don't like them, but they could be worse. They do have sleeves unlike some of the newer jerseys. I don't think red is a bad color, however. Especially as related to this forum :-) , and that it is far better than yellow.

better than yellow perhaps but no way is it better than gold and that's what Tech wears! ;-)

By the way, just to add some irony here. One of my high school's biggest rivals wore green and gold, although not quite the same shade of green. I grew up hating that color combo; until I got to Potsdam of course.

Anyone here dislike red pre-college?

Just busting you with a little cut-and-pasting in the quote. I couldn't resist. I wasn't expecting such a reaction. Thanks for the good laugh.

I hate the Yankees, but I do respect both the Sox and Yankee classic styles. I am glad that there is now a little red mixed into to the Sox away unis, unlike in the 80's when the "Boston" was just dark blue with no border, though. Those were too boring.

Sorry about the thread drift everyone else.

As far as I know, the Yankees do not wear blue tops in games except during spring training. They only started doing that fairly recently too. When I was a kid I was very proud of the fact that my team didn't wear cheesy practice jerseys in Florida games.

The Red Sox red jerseys are absolutely awful. The Mets orange is worse, but their both horrid. I'd almost rather watch the Pirates in their 1979 mustard uniforms or the Astros in the orange rainbow.

Whatever his other faults (and he has many, many, many) at least Steinbrenner firmly believes in Yankee tradition. I'm not worried about new style uniforms in the Bronx while he's alive.

I actually had maroon for my high school color. Talk about supporting your biggest rival now. I thought darker colors like that and dark green seemed classier and less cheap back then, but I quickly appreciated how red on a classy (and classic) jersey really stands out well. I think poor designs are easier to get away with with less vibrant colors as shown by some of our crappy football jerseys people mentioned. Incidentally, I have always found this true of cars as well. A bright red Nissan Sentra (just to pick an econobox) looks cheap, while a red Porsche looks classy. A maroon Sentra isn't a Porsche, but looks at least somewhat tasteful. My dad went to Clarkson, so I have always had a t-shirt or two from there with some green and yel.. (excuse me) gold.

Must be the Spring Training games that John was thinking of because in a regular season game, I've never seen them wear blue. And I'm also hoping that George never succumbs to suggestions to have the name on the back of the jersey!

The Pirates were the first to wear the God-awful double knit jobs...the once that let us all know how "big" Willie Stargell really was. Far worse than those or the '79 version or even the Astros rainbow ones was, in my opinion, the disaster the Padres wore.

Speaking of mustard.

After years of wearing Yankee pinstripes, I wonder how Graig Nettles felt dressing like a clown?

I was remarkably consistant in team colors. My high school was red & white (the Rams), as was my junior high. I guess that makes sense though, cause they were the only high school and junior high in town.

Of course, my only experience with red & hockey (never watched HS hockey) was the Red Wings, who I despise - because they won twice in a row, and because Brendan Shanahan's a douchebag (I grew up a Whalers fan). And, on the Whalers note... the Hurricanes, because Karmonos is an even greater douchebag who's wet dream is to own the Red Wings - but since he couldn't afford them, he figured he'd just buy a small market team, move them, and make the new uniforms look like the Wings.

So therefore, the first time I saw the Red step into Lynah, I had to overcome the natural revulsion to the color scheme on ice. Didn't take long though :)

Of course, all this means I still have a soft spot for green & blue. Not enough of that in hockey anymore.

It was exactly what George had signed him for. I'd long thought that Nettles signed as a FA, but baseball-reference.com lists it as a trade: Nettles for Dennis Rasmussen and PTBNL (minor leaguer Darin Cloninger).

Since you're playing jeopardy, the question is "Name the only pitcher and first National Leaguer to hit 2 grand slams in a game?"

I can't recall the term of art for colors...is it "Pantone"...someone help me here...but I was told that the uni companies call the Tech color "gold" or whatever the industry name for it is.

In the trade there is a uniform definition of colors. The colors would be Pantone ____, something alpha numeric. Thus one can specify an exact Pantone color for Clarkson's yellow. There is a seperate pantone book that would have metalic colors where one could find gold and silver.

I bet Cornell is using cheap cameras, eg $500 or $2,000, not $10,000, and they have trouble dealing with the relatively low light at Lynah. Watch a replay of the Harvard game (upcoming) feed when broadcast quality cameras are used because it's a televised game. You'll still get the pixellation and low-res, but there'll be much better shadow detail and a dark jersey such as Clarkson's will be green not off-black.
Last year, i2Sports (or whatever the hell they're called) was using couple-year-old $2000ish prosumer Canon crap in the corners. The team camera was an even older, even crappier rented lump, but not as old and crappy as the one with the burned-out CCD I was getting the feed from when I ran the webcast. Bandwidth and framerate aside, image quality is up against a very thick glass ceiling given the source. The one game I did with the feed from a professional crew for a televised game was so markedly better it was shocking, even without touching the bitrate. As long as you have monkeys pointing crappy cameras in a dark rink, the outcome is very predictable.

A fellow Whaler's fan! Not too many of us around, although there are more than I would have expected. I saw all three Howes play when I was a little kid. Agree with you on Shanahan (certainly no Dineen) and definitely on Karmanos. What an a**hole he was when made the offer about keeping the team if a certain number of season tickets were bought. Fans did an awesome job, doubling season tickets for last season in Hartford, but, of course, all that did was add to Karmanos's pockets since he obviously never intended to honor the deal.
