I missed the Lynah mention in my first scan of the article. Only one sentence.
I don't think this mention means anything other than they were putting together an article on construction. I think it's been an official project for a while now.

I know its been a project. its also been waiting approval\signatures and an official start date.. but its the first i have seen in discussed by school officals out in the open.. if the full plans were approved if means some interesting changes. more than just adding locker rooms..

I could've sworn Schafer has talked about it on the record before. But I could be wrong.

I believe Schafer stated specifically that it had been delayed from this winter to next winter. Seems pretty public to me.

Lynah addition of ~500 seats is to start a year later than expected. The plan, the delay, not new news.
As Cornell keeps expanding and pushing the athletic fields farther away from center campus, question might be: How long does Hoy Field have to live?

and in the same line of thinking, would "moving" the rink be a possibility. or other words, will football and lacrosse be enough to justify the new facility across from site of the current rink if the rink moves...i dont think so -> i doubt moving hockey will follow moving everything else

Has anyone else heard of Lynah moving? I don't think that's in the cards at all. Or did I misread your post.
Schoellkopf at some time - 2025? - might need to come down and you could see a smaller 20,000-25,000 seat stadium elsewhere being adequate and also more compact if it didn't have a running track. That (no track) would only affect regional HS track meets and even then what do they draw?

I doubt they would spend money to expand lynah only to move it a few years later.
and I know it's never going to happen, but has anyone ever thought about how cool it would be to put a rink on top of the football field and have a game outside? The NHL did it in edmonton 2 years back and seemed to go over very well. I guess it would have to be a non-conferance game, but I'm sure it would sell out.

Michigan and Michigan State did it first. It's a dumb gimmick that has hijacked the
2010 Frozen Four.

Well of course it's a gimmick, but I think it could be alot of fun if you do it under the right circumstances. It shouldn't be a league game, and certainly not somthing as important as a Frozen Four. But your telling me that a game outside against niagara wouldn't be fun?
edit: there's also a huge differance between Schoellkopf and Ford Field. Schoellkopf has a capacity of 25,597. Ford Field holds 65000 and is a domed stadium, it's an entirly differant animal.

I doubt that such a game, even if it did sell out, would cover the costs and agrivation of setting up the system and rink to support the event.

Image of the UM - MSU "Cold War" game in 2001. Almost 75K attended this one, although it's debatable how much anyone in the upper deck was able to see without binoculars.

Those who bought programs at Lynah East probably noticed the photograph from 1904 showing not one but two hockey rinks constructed in the middle of Harvard Stadium. The accompanying notes said "some old bleachers were moved up to the side of the rink, and admission was charged for some of the more important games." Take that, Michigan/MSU.
