Greg should be announcing these, but they seem to be out already...

Excellent choices all.

Scuderi, I'd say, ran unopposed. uhoh

How about Poapst? O'Flaherty? Murley? (I suspect Murley or Palahicky would be Clarkson's least respected opponent.)

No Hornby for scrappiness and effort? :`(

Well, I was going to formally announce them tomorrow, but John pre-emptively struck. I wasn't planning on any changes, anyway. Thanks to everyone who gave their input. Any criticism should be directed solely at me. "It's my party..." and all that.

ANY criticism? :-D

The TBRW awards are terrible! Clearly, any system of awards is flawed if it could honor Andy Bandurski two years in a row. My vote would have gone to an orange cone those years!!!

(Sorry, had to be said... :-D )

Yeah, my only disappointment with the way the awards turned out was that Hornby didn't win anything. (Maybe Greg should institute a Dan Dufresne Award.)

Certainly Hornby's name springs to mind when you think about "scrappiness and effort" or perhaps "determination in a supporting role." The "problem" is there were too many players who deserved recognition this season.

I'm not sure a Dan (penalty-box) Dufresne award is the answer, however. I for one felt that Hornby was much more selective with his hitting this year, although he did have a few penalty minutes (all minors).

I've been thinking that we should have a Damian Rocke award -- for noteworthy (or legendary) accomplishment during the season. This could be a flexible, loosely defined award; maybe not awarded every year. This would allow us to acknowledge players like Hornby (the unguided missile), Big Dave Francis, or Jiri Kloboucek (Mr. October).

The purist in me cringes at the idea of a potentially negative award for a member of our own team. Which is not to say that the accomplishments of players like Damian or Jiri aren't worth remembering rolleyes

Of course, the title "Damian Rocke Award" has already been used. See [slack.net]

Is the Levi Clegg who you named MVP of said RMCHA Tournament the same Levi Clegg who appeared in five games for Cornell in 1996-97? Certainly it's not a very common name...

As I was going to add in a footnote: Yes, it's the same Levi Clegg. He was a local boy who was passing through on his way from Cornell to (I believe) Stanford.

Damian Rocke Award

Sorry, John. I didn't mean to step on your toes. I don't think you need to worry about competition for the name, though. Greg hasn't shown any interest in adding the Rocke award to TBRW.

And Bill, I don't think of the proposed award as negative. Rocke single-handedly made an otherwise dreadful game somewhat entertaining (and fortunately no-one was injured). As for Jiri, the point isn't that he failed to produce during the regular season, but rather that he was so spectacular during Red-White (and exhibition?) games.

John (and, more to the point, Greg),

The link under Damian Rocke's name on slack.net leads to a non-existent page at TBRW, "97goons.html" or some such thing.

LOL, to my knowledge (which is pretty close to absolute), there has never been such a page on TBRW. Perhaps it is a JTW link that accidentally was sidetracked to his TBRW links. Aint mine, anyway. ;-)

No, it was a good link back in 1998 when I wrote the RMCHA page. It was a table of the ECAC leaders in penalty minutes per game played. You can guess who #1 was.

In fact, I just found its new location:

JTW - not quite there yet. On the bright side you've likely got a long time yet before you'll need it (if at all) ... and who's to say that the occasional memory lapse is anything but normal?

:-)

How many games did Damian Rocke play in in 1997?

How many games? Hell, how many shifts? I counted two -- on the second of which he was booted.
